Kanye West has repeatedly hit recent headlines because of his public erratic behavior, which Kim Kardashian said is a result of his mental health.

The rapper, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, is also friends with Elon Musk and now the tech entrepreneur has said "there seem to be a lot of issues" with West in a new interview with New York Times.

This comes after West announced that he would allegedly be joining the 2020 presidential race.

He wrote on Twitter: "We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION"

In response to this, Musk declared his public support for the rapper's bid, writing: "You have my full support!"

However, in the recent New York Times interview, Musk revealed that he has advised his friend to wait until 2024 before running.

"I've done my best to convince him that 2024 would be better than 2020," he said.

Musk explained that the two men text "fairly often", adding, "I've known him for at least 10 years, maybe longer."

Musk revealed that he had contacted West after he went on a public Twitter rampage which is what forced his wife Kim to address his mental health.

"When he was about a third of the way through the tweet rampage, just to see if he was doing OK, I sent him a text saying, you know, just checking on you, a lot of people are worried, just wondering if you're OK," Musk said.

"And he called me back and he actually seemed fine. He video FaceTimed me and he was in Wyoming with a bunch of friends. He seemed fine on the call. But it sounds like things are, you know, not fine. There seem to be a lot of issues."

Following the Twitter rampage and a presidential rally where he discussed wanting to abort one of his children, North, West apologized to Kim for his behavior.

The 43-year-old wrote:

"I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter.

"I did not cover her like she has covered me.To Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me."

The apology came after Justin Bieber visited West at his ranch in Wyoming, known as Yeezy Campus. The video below shows Kanye greeting the fellow chart-topper with a hug.
