Emily Ratajkowski has opened up on her thoughts about getting divorced in your 20s, and it's safe to say she's definitely for it if the relationship isn't working out.
The model, 32, has sparked debate after sharing a video titled: "Personally I find it chic to be divorced by the age of 30."
The post comes after it was announced that Joe Jonas, 34, and Sophie Turner, 27, were divorcing after four years of marriage and two children together.
Emily, who herself was separated last year after splitting from Sebastian Bear-McClard, the father of her son, opened up on her own experiences with getting married young and then parting ways.
She explained: "So it seems that a lot of ladies are getting divorced before they turn 30, and as someone who got married at 26 and has been separated for a little over a year [at] 32, I have to tell you I don't think there's anything better.
"Being in your 20s is the trenches, there is nothing better than being in your thirties, still being hot, [*having boundaries], maybe having a little bit of your own money, figuring out what you want to do with your life – everything, and having tried that married fantasy and realizing that it's maybe not all it's cracked up to be and you've got your whole life still ahead of you."
Reassuring anyone who is going through a similar situation, she concluded: "So for all those people who are stressed or feeling stressed about that, about being divorced, like, it's good - congratulations. Congratulations."
Of course, Emily's bold stance ended up sparking a debate, with strong opinions on either side on what she'd said.
One shared her video, writing on Twitter: "Emily Ratajkowski (who has a personal net worth of at least 8 million dollars) is glamorizing divorce and says marriage is a 'fantasy'. Completely out of touch and delusional. Sadly, women look up to her."
Others hit back at this stance, writing: "a women speaking against societies rules and traditions to put mental health and happiness first is not out of touch or delusional. figuring out what you want in life at a young age is so important no matter who disagrees. good for her."
TikTok viewers also praised her for speaking out, adding: "Truer words have never been spoken!" and "LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK."
Another commented: "Currently ending a 14 yr relationship at 31 and this is very validating, thank you."
One also shared on Twitter: "Nah let her speak shes definitely right. Our patriarchal society makes it seem woman should always aspire to be married. That regardless of whatever career you have you should aspire as a woman to one day be married. And women are learning marriage is not all that great lol."
Her comments come after Sophie and Joe announced their divorce on Wednesday, with their legal documents stating "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken", per the Daily Mail's reports.
Sophie and Joe first began dating in 2016 before getting engaged in 2017. The couple tied the knot in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony in 2019, followed by a more intimate celebration in France.
The parents-of-two confirmed their split in a shared statement posted on social media, telling fans: "Statement from the two of us: After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.
"There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."
