In what has been described as one of the messiest scandals on television, two Good Morning America anchors have reportedly been taken off air following the revelation they were having an 'affair'.

According to multiple reports, GMA3 hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have been removed from their positions after their alleged affair was recently exposed.

On Monday, during an internal call, Kim Godwin the President of ABC News is claimed to have announced that the duo would not be hosting their daily afternoon show.

As per the Daily Mail, Godwin told staffers on the call that the alleged affair had become too much of an "internal and external distraction."

She is alleged to have said: "This is something I'm not going to talk, we're not going to talk about on this call until there is more to be said. I'm asking that we stop the whispering in the hallways. You know, we can't operate with gossip, and speculation, and rumors.

"We need to stay focused on the work."

She continued: "If you think there is something that management needs to know, you can always call HR or, as we've said, talk to a manager that you trust. If you think there is something that we need to know."

The network's leader also added that while the news of Holmes and Robach’s alleged affair was "not a violation of company policy," the decision to take them out of their positions was "necessary for the brand as a whole."

During Monday's episode of the GMA3 show, Stephanie Ramos and Gio Benitez filled in for Robach and Holmes, telling viewers that the pair were having "a day off."

However, sources told the Daily Mail that the alleged lovers had been suspended "indefinitely."

The news comes after the alleged affair between Robach and Holmes was exposed last week.

The bombshell revelation was first reported by the Daily Mail, which claimed that the co-stars were caught on a "romantic getaway", holding hands in the back of a car and getting cozy with each other at a bar.

Page Six also claimed that both Robach and Homles were married during their entanglement, before cutting things off with their partners in August.

While the duo didn't initially respond to the report and continued their anchoring duties as usual, the resulting attention to their alleged romance appears to have resulted in unexpected consequences.
