In a cruel punishment to all singe-use plastic users worldwide, Jason Momoa has decided to shave off his luscious, coveted locks.

Making the choice to cut off his signature tresses just days ago, Momoa has already made global headlines for his admirable dedication to the environment.

The 43-year-old Aquaman star uploaded footage of someone shaving his head to his Instagram two days ago, captioning the clip: "Here's to new beginnings let's spread the aloha. Be better at protecting our land and oceans. We need to cut single use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas. Plastic bottles, plastic bags, packaging, utensils all of it. Let's aloha our 'āina together, aloha, J [sic]."

In the video, Momoa is heard saying: "Aloha, everyone," before showing his viewers a handful of braids that were recently cut from his head. "Shaving off the hair," he continues, before adding: "Ooh man, I've never even felt the wind right there," as a nice breeze blows past.

The actor, who was named a United Nations Environment Program Advocate for Life Below Water, states: "I'm tired of these plastic bottles. We got to stop. Plastic forks. All that s***. It just goes into our land, into our ocean. It's just so sad, so please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastics in your life. Help me."

Momoa has been tremendously vocal about fighting climate change and ocean pollution over the years, especially after witnessing the state of the oceans in his native Hawaii.

In 2019, the Game of Thrones actor shaved his trademark beard after seven years in an effort to encourage people to stop using plastic bottles and to promote his new venture, Mananalu Pure Water - a water company that sells water in recyclable aluminium cans and removes one plastic water bottle from the ocean for every can purchased.

Posting a video on YouTube, Momoa was filmed taking clippers to his beard, while saying: "I just want to do this to bring awareness. Plastics are killing our planet."

This caused chaos on Twitter, with one person writing: "Okay. I'll drink any water you want, grow it back please!"

"Well done guys, first you destroyed the planet and now you destroy Jason Momoa's beard. I don't know which is worse. Shame on you all," someone else hilariously added.

This time, however, Momoa is being widely praised for shaving his head, with numerous fans and celebrities flocking to the father-of-two's Instagram page to comment.

Former wrestler and Army of the Dead actor, Dave Bautista, commented: "Whaaaaat?!!! 😱 Committed AF. ❤️"

Non-profit climate organization, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, also voiced their support for the actor: "Mahalo for advocating to create a better world for future generations to come. Spreading aloha not just to the people around us but the places that provide for us. Aloha 'Āina 🫶."

Taking the clippers to his head was a big move for the megastar, whose trademark beachy waves have become part of his iconic image. In fact, in 2018 he told The Daily Telegraph that wouldn't shave his head as his wife at the time, Lisa Bonet, loved his hair.

"My wife would leave me if I cut my hair so I just don't cut my hair," he told the paper, before adding: "I am not cutting my hair for a while, I will tell you that much."

Well, it looks like the the buzzcut is here to stay... hopefully it'll grow on us!
