People magazine has once again crowned their Sexiest Man Alive for another year, though this year's reigning champion might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Captain America star Chris Evans was named this year's Sexiest Man Alive, telling People: "This whole thing is tough to be interviewed about. It feels like a weird form of humble bragging."

"It is something that as I become old and saggy I can look back on and say 'I remember then…' I'm lucky to be in the discussion in any capacity," he added.

However, not everyone believed he was the rightful heir to the Sexiest Man throne, as many netizens took to Twitter to complain that Aquaman star Jason Momoa should have been this year's winner.

One person wrote: "The actual hottest man on the planet. Sexiest most attractive face, tattoos, body of a god and a bum that's so delicious looking, I'm unsure if I want to bite it or squeeze it [...] What a girl's dreams are made of [sic]!!"

"Anxiety is when you put old men on the cover of sexiest man alive because they have a savvy manager and a new movie coming out, while bypassing Jason Momoa for a decade," someone else added.

"It's 2022 and Jason Momoa has never won Sexiest Man Alive....that doesn't sit right with me AT ALL [...] Like I TRULY want to fight ALL the ppl over there @ People magazine [...]," another user wrote.

A forth user tweeted: "Can someone explain to me how Jason Momoa hasn't won, 'People’s Sexiest Man?' I mean, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Paul Rudd? Who tf is in charge of making these decisions. They should be replaced with someone who has eyeballs and good taste."

Fans of the Game of Thrones star have been on People's case for years, campaigning for the day the publication will recognize the Hawaiian native for his celebrated good looks. Even singer John Legend, who won the award in 2019, told People in 2020: "Going by my Twitter mentions when I was named of who people said should have been picked over me, I got a lot of Jason Momoa. That's the one person that stood out in the Twitter feedback."

The year Legend was named, People's Editor-in-Chief, Dan Wakeford, revealed to CNN what the process of choosing a winner is like.

"There are so many different variables and ways of approaching it," he said. "A starting point often is, when we want to make a decision, is to think about the zeitgeist, think about what is sexy at the moment. What do people find appealing at the moment?"

Wakeford also added that they take polls into serious consideration when picking the Sexiest Man Alive.

Maybe People is saving Momoa for next year's Sexiest Man Alive. Fingers crossed that Wakeford is keeping an eye on Twitter!
