Fans have been left bubbling with excitement as rising stars New Jeans win their first-ever award at this year's Billboard Music Awards.
On Sunday night at the annual Billboard Music Awards, we were treated to some spectacular moments while celebrating the best of what music had to offer over the past 12 months.
The night saw all-time greats like Taylor Swift, Drake, and Beyonce as stand-out artists, as well as SZA, Morgan Wallen, and Bad Bunny, take home their own awards in categories that ranged from Top Artist all the way to 'Top R&B Album.'
While fans were incredibly excited to see some of their favorite acts take to the stage, there's one group that seems to have become a trending topic on social media not just because they managed to take home their first-ever award, but also because of their incredible performance.
Of course, I'm referring to K-pop sensation New Jeans.
Now, for those of you who might not be aware - first of all, where have you been? - and secondly, New Jeans in a South Korean girl group consisting of 5 members - Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.
Created by South Korean record label, ADOR, which is an independent label under HYBE, the group has only been around a hot minute and has already managed to garner a global and extremely loyal fanbase thanks to their top hits 'Super Shy' and 'OMG.'
Taking to the grand stage at the coveted awards show, the group performed both hits along with an entourage of backup dancers that performed their catchy choreography with razor-sharp precision - as expected.
They were also credited with the award for 'Top Global K-Pop Artist' after the organizer stated that the group "has quickly climbed to the top of the Billboard charts."
In their speech, they thanked their "Bunnies", a nickname for their fans, before thanking each other for their hard work to make their success possible.
"We are always looking out for one another. Inspiring, helping, believing, but above all, forming this unbreakable friendship, without which we would not be NewJeans."
After seeing their win, fans took to Twitter, better known now as X, to congratulate the band for their historic win.
"From winning daesangs [Korean award name] in their home country to winning trophies at the billboard music awards, no artist has ever achieved the level of success newjeans has in a single year. i’m so proud of the jeanies. 2023 was their year!" wrote one user, while another added: "5 hot 100 entries, #1 debut on billboard 200 beating the barbie soundtrack, 197 cumulative weeks on top billboard excl. us artist.. newjeans you are insane!"
Others couldn't help but talk about the group's iconic performance.
"NewJeans DEVOURED the billboard stage !!! if you disagree, you're just mad and bitter," this user stated.
And New Jeans weren't the only K-pop stars to claim an award on the night as BTS' Jungkook also managed to secure himself a win with his song 'Seven' as 'Top Global K-pop Song' and Black Pink also managed to secure the win for 'Best Touring K-pop Artist.
Stray Kids also got the award for 'Top K-pop album.'
