This year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is making history.
For the first time in it's 58-year history, the magazine will feature a visibly pregnant model - fitness influencer and soon-to-be mom of two Katrina Scott.
SI Swim announced the exciting news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, timed to coincide with Mother's Day week. In the post, they shared a radiant snap of pregnant Katrina in swimwear and noted that the Tone It Up co-founder has already featured in SI Swim when she was crowned Rookie of the Year in 2021.
The caption also included a message from Katrina, in which she reflected on her involvement with the magazine.
"Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has a storied history of firsts… of breaking boundaries, building and restoring confidence, and speaking directly to all women in an empowering and inclusive voice. Today is such a special moment that I’m honored to be a part of," she wrote.
"As women, we have been told, shown, and expected to hide (then “bounce back” from) our pregnant bodies, when, in fact, our beautiful bumps embody the miracle of what it means to be Selfless, Vulnerable, and Strong," the trainer continued.
She ended her message by sharing how she hoped this year's issue of SI Swim would "represent all the women out there that are creating life, feeling all the feels, and embracing change as they look to the future, especially those having difficult fertility journeys."
Scott opened up about her own difficulties conceiving in an interview with Today. "When I first shot with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I had just experienced two miscarriages," she shared of her debut in the 2021 issue.
"I was pregnant twice during 2020, more than half of the year, and neither pregnancy went to full term," she added.
Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated has been there throughout her infertility struggles. In 2021, Scott made a splash when - midway through a cycle of IVF - she appeared bikini-clad on the runway at the magazine's show.
"I walked in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Runway show in Miami during one of my IVF treatments, which eventually led to this baby. So you could say, this little girl is already part of the SI family," she told Today.
After months of trying to conceive, Scott and her husband Brian are now looking forward to welcoming their second child. The two already share a three-year-old daughter, Isabelle.
