Kristen Stewart has made a risqué confession when talking about her latest movie.
In a new interview with Variety, the 33-year-old actress opened up about her latest project titled Love Lies Bleeding, a new queer crime thriller.
Directed and co-written by Rose Glass, Love Lies Bleeding is set in the world of bodybuilding and tells the story of a reclusive gym manager named Lou (played by Stewart) who falls in love with an ambitious bodybuilder who works out at the venue called Jackie (played by Katy O'Brian).
However, things get complicated as Jackie gets wrapped up in Lou's family secrets.
Have a look at the trailer below:While the film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah later this month, the former Twilight actress has spilled some of the details about the R-rated movie, including some pretty intense sex scenes between Lou and Jackie.
"They don't take their clothes off, but this is going to shock people," she told the outlet about one specific scene taking place in Lou's bathroom.
"All you ever [usually] see is a dress coming up and a head going down under," she continued, hinting that Love Lies Bleeding will be taking a more authentic approach when portraying intimate scenes.
"I think even hetero sex on film is so rote. You go: 'OK, I know what that looks like in movies, that's what we'll do,' because no one actually wants to reveal themselves," she added.
When discussing her role in the film, Stewart revealed how playing a "butch" character has made her feel sexy and alive - 'butch' being a queer term used to describe masculine gay women.
"There was something about having the things that I have found attractive be really glorified," she said. "It was really sexy. And I don't mean from an outsider's perspective: I felt turned on by it, and it was cool to have people witness that."
Elsewhere Stewart also opened up a bit more about how sexuality has played a role in her career so far, starting with the iconic movie that propelled her to superstardom - Twilight, of course.
Referring to Twilight as "such a gay movie" she went on to explain why she thought it to be that way.
"I don’t think it necessarily started off that way, but I also think that the fact that I was there at all, it was percolating," she stated. "It’s all about oppression, about wanting what’s going to destroy you. That’s a very Gothic, gay inclination that I love."
However, Stewart also got candid about how speculation surrounding her sexuality has come to impact her.
"For so long, I was like, 'Why are you trying to skewer me? Why are you trying to ruin my life? I’m a kid, and I don’t really know myself well enough yet,'" she said. "The idea of people going, 'I knew that you were a little queer kid forever.' I’m like, 'Oh, yeah? Well, you should honestly have seen me f*** my first boyfriend.'"
Love Lies Bleeding is set to be released in March 2024.
