Wearing face masks is of the utmost importance during the ongoing pandemic, and Lady Gaga, true to form, used this as a fashion opportunity at last night's VMAs.

The 'Pokerface' singer, who wore masks before it was actually required, wore elaborate masks throughout the night, and we are here for her pandemic fashion statements.

Gaga's first outfit was a silver space-like dress accompanied by silver hair and black platform boots which she topped off with a clear, fishbowl facemask.

Sharing a picture of her first look on Instagram, Gaga wrote: "I was wearing face shields before it was even a thing."

Up next was a butterfly-esque dress that she wore to accept the award for Best Collaboration for Rain On Me with Ariana Grande, and she paired it with a pink gas mask that looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Lady Gaga then changed into a gorgeous green satin dress and paired it with a mask that's a combination of sexy and terrifying.

However, arguably the most impressive moment of the evening was when Lady Gaga performed a medley of hit songs and did so all while wearing a mask.

It's a testament to the fact that they really don't inhibit anyone's breathing and that there's really no excuse not to wear one unless you are exempt for another reason.

Gaga paired her singing mask with a bondage-esque, leather strap-laden outfit, and while Grande's outfit for the duet was great, we have to admit that Lady Gaga definitely had the edge in the mask department.

One of Gaga's greatest looks of the evening was debuted when she stepped out to accept her Artist of the Year award in a silver catsuit that she accompanied with a white, feathery cape and a silver metallic mask.

Unbelievably, this wasn't all of her outfit changes, and she also stepped out to collect the Tricon Award - which is given to artists who are a triple threat in multiple fields - in a different silver dress.

"I might sound like a broken record but wear a mask," she said.
