Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell, the oldest daughter of reality TV star Mama June Shannon, has sadly passed away.
Mama June announced the heartbreaking news of her 29-year-old daughter's death in an Instagram post shared on Sunday (December 10).
"With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us," the 44-year-old began the caption of her post alongside a family photograph. "She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12PM."
"She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today," she continued. "We love y’all and continued prayers and thoughts for our family [during] this difficult time."
Cardwell was the eldest daughter of the Shannon family, known for their appearances on TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras and later, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo from 2012 to 2017. She was a half-sister to Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, and Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson.
She had reportedly been diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in January after the cancer was discovered in her lung, liver, and kidney following a series of tests.
This type of cancer can affect people of any age but is most commonly seen in children under five years old, or in adults in their 40s and 50s, and its symptoms usually include weight gain, back pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness.
The mother-of-two underwent her first round of chemotherapy in March and documented her journey on social media, sharing on May 10 that she was on round three of chemotherapy.
"It was pretty good day but did get a little and Cracker Barrel was good going down but not up," she wrote at the time. "But overall it’s going good and chemo is working we come to find so things are looking good."
The devastating announcement comes days after Mama June shared a video on Instagram updating her 778K followers on her eldest child's health situation.
"Y’all [are] asking for prayers for our family as we are going through this process we really appreciate y’all for all the thoughts and prayers and we will update y’all whenever we can just know that all of your thoughts and your prayers are very much appreciated during this time," she penned in her post, adding the hashtag "#CancerSucks."
Her 23-year-old daughter, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, reposted the video on her Instagram page and added her own message: "Say a prayer for our family.”
Cardwell is survived by her two young daughters, Kaitlyn and Kylee, whom she shared with her ex-husband Michael Cardwell.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and fans at this time.
