An alleged victim of convicted R&B star R. Kelly has defended him, claiming that they are engaged in a letter to a judge dated before his sentencing.

On June 29, 2022, Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and abusing young girls following a six-week trial that took place last year.

However, in a letter that has since surfaced online, one of his alleged victims - 26-year-old Joycelyn Savage - denies that she was ever abused by the disgraced star and claims that he is "not the monster that the government has described him to be."

The letter - which is addressed to Judge Ann Donnelly and dated June 13, 2022 - begins: "My name is Joycelyn Savage, and I'm Robert Kelly's fianće," per MailOnline.

"I'm writing this letter in support of Robert in advance of his sentencing, so I can explain to the court that I'm not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be," it continues.

"He always takes any opportunity he can to help those in need. He’s very determined and focused on his goals, and the things that have been said about him, with me and other women being held against our will is absolutely untrue. It’s the complete opposite of who he is and what my relationship is like with Robert," Savage wrote.

Savage goes on to claim that she is "deeply in love" with Kelly, and that "the government has created a narrative that I'm a victim."

She ends the letter with a plea that Kelly's sentencing be lessened, writing: "I respectfully ask that the court take my words into consideration when sentencing Robert. He is a great man, with a great heart and deserves to be home with his loved ones who are ready to support him."

Savage has lived with Kelly since 2015 when she met him at a concert at the age of 19.

In 2019, an unknown person who claimed to be Savage accused Kelly of abuse, detailing how he impregnated her and forced her to get an abortion. Savage has since denied that she was behind these allegations - however, her family believes that she is only speaking out in Kelly's defense because she has been manipulated and brainwashed by the singer.

The 26-year-old is one of several women to accuse Kelly of sex trafficking and abusive, controlling behavior. He is currently being detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he has been since his trial.
