For years Paris Hilton has often been associated with the dumb blonde persona, Juicy Couture tracksuits, cutesy baby voice, wild child ways, and her reality TV series The Simple Life.
However, the DJ and heiress is showing herself in a new light - becoming more involved with activism and relishing her new role as a mother.
The 42-year-old made the announcement that she had welcomed her first child via surrogate - a son named Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum - with her husband Carter Reum. Many of her fans were shocked, as only a few close family and friends of Hilton knew of the baby.
Hilton discussed this, as well as the traumatic abuse she suffered at the Provo Canyon boarding school in Utah she attended from the age of 16 to 18, in a recent interview with Glamour UK. She also touched upon her wild teenage years, and how she was drugged and sexually assaulted aged just 15 by an older man.
In her cover interview, Hilton describes how she was manipulated by a teacher when she was 15, being lured into his car where the pair kissed. When her parents drove up, Paris and her teacher apparently fled in the car, embarking on a wild car chase before she ended up being dropped back home and pretending to be asleep in her room.
The young troubled teen was then sent to live with her maternal grandmother in Palm Springs, though she would head back to Los Angeles to meet with her friends to hang out at the mall on the weekends. It was during one of these visits that Hilton and a group of her girlfriends gave out their pager numbers to some older guys who would often loiter around outside the stores at the shopping center.
"And then one day, they invited us to their house and we're drinking these berry wine coolers," Hilton recalls, adding that one of the men in particular was actively encouraging her to drink more wine. "I didn't drink or anything back then, but then when I had maybe one or two sips, I just immediately started feeling dizzy and woozy. I don't know what he put in there, I'm assuming it was a roofie."
She then continued, recounting how she'd woken up a few hours later and her friend was no longer there. "I remembered it. I have visions of him on top of me, covering my mouth, being like, 'You're dreaming, you're dreaming,' and whispering that in my ear," she said. Later on in the interview, Hilton recalls feeling ashamed after this first sexual experience.
Hilton has always been transparent about the different ways she has been taken advantage of in her life, namely the sex tape between Hilton and her then-boyfriend Rick Salomon that he leaked in 2003. At the time, she stated that she felt "embarrassed and humiliated," per Entertainment Weekly.
Despite her dark past, Hilton has expressed that she's grateful for her new chapter in life, saying: "I'm not a dumb blonde, I'm just very good at pretending to be one. The real me is someone who is strong and resilient, brave, smart and fun."
