But, we're happy to announce that the fates have blessed us, and the first step towards this momentous occasion has been formally taken.

Last night, Justin stunned fans when he took to Twitter to challenge Tom to the fight we never knew we needed.

"I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon. Tom if you dont [sic] take this fight your [sic] scared and you will never live it down," he wrote.

The musician then showed he was deadly serious about the whole thing by tagging the President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White and writing: "Who is willing to put on the fight? @danawhite ?"

Unsurprisingly, the post mixed up an otherwise slow Sunday evening, with social media thoroughly entertained by the thought of the pop star and Hollywood actor meeting in the cage.

The 'Love Yourself' singer's proposal was made even more enjoyable when Irish professional mixed martial artist and boxer Conor McGregor got involved.

Offering to host the match, he wrote: "If Tom Cruise is man enough to accept this challenge, McGregor Sports and Entertainment will host the bout. Does Cruise have the sprouts to fight, like he does in the movies? Stay tuned to find out!"

So, they have a venue and a host, now the question is: if Tom did accept the invite, who would win?

Unsurprisingly, most fans are on the Mission Impossible actor's side, who is well-known for hitting the gym on the regular and doing all his own stunts.

People in the comment section of Justin's tweet were placing their bets on Tom, with many laughing at the very idea of there being any competition.
