Sylvester Stallone's daughter Sistine has opened up about the unconventional parenting methods her father employed when she was growing up.

The 25-year-old is one of the action star's five children as well as her brothers Sage and Seargeoh, and sisters Scarlet and Sophia.

However, growing up with a movie star for a dad - especially one known as a hard man in his flicks - meant the kids ended up having some pretty unusual self-defense training growing up.

Speaking on The Family Stallone season 2 premiere, Sistine revealed that her dad sent her off to school with a "little knife" in her backpack for protection.

She explained: "He made us practice pepper spraying each other. Oh my God, that’s so bad! He put a little knife in my backpack in fourth grade."

Now, it goes without saying that that is something no parent should ever do given the danger to others and themselves of having a knife in school, or even the risk of repercussions for simply carrying one.

The confession came about as the 77-year-old Oscar nominee made his family train with the Defense Strategies Group.

He explained on the show: "I’m not playing a game. These are the guys that have seen combat, faced death. This is the real deal."

The female members of the family were seen donning boxing gloves and throwing punches with trainer Mike, who was a former Navy SEAL, before doing some mat work while Sylvester smoked a cigar and watched.

His other daughter Sophia, 27, asked: "When am I ever going to be doing this in New York?", to which Sistine quipped: "Every first date ever!"

However, the self-defense class almost ended up with a date in itself as Sistine revealed that Mike had started DM-ing her, but added: "But I’m not his type and I’ll tell you why. He follows only girls that have really big curves and Sophia and I are like, boing," explaining that she and her sister have a "stick figure" body shape.

In the episode, Sylvester and his wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone also revealed that they were leaving their home in California in order to start over in Palm Beach, Florida, as their home felt "empty" after their kids had all flown the nest.

The couple's two eldest daughters have moved to New York while their youngest child, Scarlet, was heading to college at the University of Miami.

While Sophia and Sistine were all for the move, Scarlet was pretty sad about saying goodbye to her childhood home, adding: "I actually wanted to take over this house after you guys to raise my family."

Here's hoping she doesn't take any tips in self-defense for fourth graders from her dad when she does eventually have kids though...
