Tom Brady has donated $10,000 to Damar Hamlin's toy drive following the NFL star suffering a cardiac arrest on the field.
Hamlin, 24, went into cardiac arrest while playing for the Buffalo Bills in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday (January 2) following a routine tackle.
The game was suspended as fellow players and fans watched on as Hamlin was given CPR for several minutes before an ambulance took him to the hospital.
The Buffalo Bills released the following statement on Twitter shortly after: "Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition."
In 2020, Hamlin began fundraising for a toy drive where he hoped he could raise $2,500 to distribute toys to children in need in Pennsylvania over the festive period.
In the days since his horrific ordeal, the fundraising page - at the time of writing - has received over $6 million in donations, including from NFL superstar Tom Brady.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion donated $10,000 on the GoFundMe page, alongside other celebrities and fans wishing to show their support to Hamlin.
Brady also offered words of support on Twitter: "We’re praying for Damar and his family this morning in Tampa. Moments like this put into perspective what it means to play this game we love. Thankful for our communities in Cincinnati and Buffalo for the overwhelming level of care and support I know they’ll continue to provide."
Other donors that can be seen listed on the fundraising page include WWE star, Chris Jericho, former Mayor of New York Rudy Guiliani, and a host of NFL players and teams including the Washington Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks.
When creating the page in 2020, Hamlin penned: "As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me."
An update has since been posted thanking fans for their support while the 24-year-old remains in a critical condition in the hospital.
Hamlin's uncle has also told CNN that the Bills player is "trending upwards in a positive way" after needing to be resuscitated for a second time when arriving at the hospital.
