A couple's honeymoon is meant to be a time of relaxation, excitement and excess. After the thrills and spills of the wedding day, which while being one of the best days of your life, is also incredibly stressful and tiring, the bride and groom are meant to whisk themselves away to sunny shores in order to unwind and spend some much-needed downtime with each other. Destinations such Hawaii, Barbados and The Maldives rank highly on the list of destinations for most newlyweds, with the crystal clear waters that these places offer forming a large part of their appeal.
However, for one recently married couple, they found out about the perils the lie within the ocean in the most horrendous circumstances while they were out snorkelling on their honeymoon. Evan Carroll and his wife Sarah, from Charleston, South Carolina, had a terrifying experience during their honeymoon to the Caribbean and luckily for us, they managed to capture the whole thing on video for our viewing.
While out snorkelling on their romantic getaway, Evan managed to film the moment that his new wife was physically attacked by a massive shark. The video, which can be seen below, shows Sarah swimming away in the beautiful blue oceans before a shark appears out of nowhere and takes a bite of her arm.

Initially, Sarah though the shark was just Evan playing an elaborate prank on her (by attempting to bite off her arm?), however, she quickly realised the severity of her situation and made a desperate attempt to flee the baying beast.
The shark in question was a nurse shark, which is typically seen to be a shark that tourists can enjoy swimming with. Generally, these sharks are reasonably friendly animals that tend to feed on small sea creatures so don't feel the need to attack humans, unless they are provoked. The incidents whereby nurse sharks have bitten a human usually occur due to the fact that they've had their fins pulled or have been goaded in some other way.
The five-foot shark appeared to see Sarah's dangling outstretched arm as bait and duly obliged, digging its teeth into her flesh and piercing her skin.
Speaking about the horrifying incident, the newlywed said:“Less than a second later I realized how much it hurt and looked past where my goggles were blocking my side vision to see the shark bigger than myself latch on to my arm.”
In the video, Sarah can be heard screaming as she tried to escape the predator, which continues to follow her shortly after taking a bite out of her arm. But, incredibly, she managed to survive the ordeal and only sustained cuts to her skin, rather than anything more serious.
It's a pretty mad ordeal to go through on your honeymoon, which is meant to be a relaxing and calming experience, rather than distressing an painful. Still, at least Sarah can say that she has survived a shark attack - that's pretty cool, right?
