Jason Momoa reveals the reason he struggled to get acting work after starring in 'Game of Thrones'

Game of Thrones is so monumentally popular by this point that even the most minor actors on the cast list are swarmed by fans of the hit fantasy series. You would think that the cast, especially those that played fan favourite characters, wouldn't have much trouble getting work outside of the show. Strangely enough, one actor who has admitted to finding it difficult to get new roles is Jason Momoa, who played everyone's favourite Dothraki Warlord, Khal Drogo. While Momoa only remained on the HBO show for its first season, with it releasing a further 57 episodes since - it's clear he made a huge impact. He was an intimidating presence but like the love of his life, Daenerys Targaryen, we were all won over by his charms in the end. But it wasn't his first role, as the actor had been working ever since the late 90s, with various appearances in Baywatch and Stargate Atlantis before his scene-stealing role in the world of Westeros. We tend to associate him with an intimidating glare and a grizzled look, but the actor he didn't always look that way. When you look at some of his first screen roles, he's presenting as a far more traditional and straight-edged form of hunk. Geared up in a hat that only he can pull off (or as he puts it, "dressed for war"), Momoa initially geeks out over Saturday Night Live, The Roots and the host himself, clearly ecstatic that he had the opportunity to appear on the show. Not a lot of people thought I spoke English. It was very challenging. It's like 'What do you do with Drogo?' You're not going to put him in a comedy" "It's pigeonholed." He also recounts the time he met Fred Armisen, full of admiration for the comedic actor, only to be told "I didn't even know you spoke English". He said this moment made him realise how Game of Thrones had held him back, saying: "I was like - this is why I'm not getting any jobs". Not only that, but the character is getting his own solo movie, which is due to be released later this year - and man does he look ripped for the role.
