A bartender has revealed how ordering an "angel shot" could end up saving your life in a time of trouble.

Being on a night out should be a fun thing to do, but sometimes when alcohol starts flowing it can turn sinister pretty quickly - especially for women.

Unfortunately, it's an all too common situation where people are made to feel uncomfortable at a bar as someone else is making unwelcome advances.

That's where the angel shot comes in.

In a viral TikTok video, bartender Benji Spears sheds light on the secret angel shot code that can potentially save lives in uncomfortable or dangerous dating situations.

Spears shared a crucial safety tip for those finding themselves in uncomfortable situations while on a date at a bar. He explained that patrons can discreetly order an angel shot and the bar staff will come to their aid without asking any questions.

In the video, Spears reenacted a scenario where a woman at the bar requested an Angel Shot after feeling threatened by her date's aggressive behavior. He subtly got his manager involved to handle the situation, emphasizing the seriousness of the code-word request.

Spears recounted witnessing the man leaning aggressively toward the woman despite her evident discomfort. When the woman asked for an "Angel Shot with lime," the bartender immediately recognized the urgency of the situation.

To ensure the woman's safety, Spears stayed at their table, engaging in small talk while his colleague discreetly sought the bar manager. This subtle approach aimed to prevent the man from realizing the impending intervention.

Spears clarified the variations of the Angel Shot code: "Angel Shot with Lime" signifies a call to the police for immediate assistance, "Angel Shot Neat" means the patron would like to be escorted safely to their car, and "Angel Shot on the Rocks" prompts the staff to arrange a safe ride home by booking a cab.

"The bartender will notify a manager, and we will call the police for you," Spears emphasized, highlighting the critical role bar staff play in ensuring patrons' safety.

Spears revealed the increasing prevalence of Angel Shots in bars, saying: "So an angel shot is key. It can save you or your best friend's life, and it's something we should all know."

People flocked to the comments with their thoughts, as one person wrote: "It's important to note that Benji didn't leave her side once she said that. purps might know what that means and this put her in danger."

A second said: "I asked the bartender if he knew what an angel shot was [and] he said no and I thought I was done for, but minutes later I was helped thank you!"

So if ever you're in a bit of trouble at a bar, an angel shot could be the thing that saves you.
