A flight attendant has revealed the secret reason behind a symbol you may have noticed inside the cabin - a small black triangle.
Most people who have been on a flight may spend their time looking at the view outside the window, or eagerly awaiting when the snack trolley will make its way down the aisle.
Taking note of the many signs and symbols in the cabin might not be the top of a passenger's list - but there are some hidden symbols that you may have spotted while making your way to your seat.
One of these is a small black triangle above a window, which actually has a surprising significance.
One flight attendant, who goes by @_hennylim_ on TikTok took to the video-sharing platform to finally quell our curiosity and explain what exactly that black triangle really means.
She revealed the secrets behind it, telling her followers: "1. Passengers sitting next to the triangles get the best view of the wings.
"2. If flight crew need to check the wings these triangles let them know the best vantage points for the slats and flaps outside."
As well as the safety aspect, there is also another benefit if you happen to find yourself sitting next to the black triangle sign on your next flight.
She added: "If you're flying an airline that allows you to choose your own seat, look for one of the triangles in the cabin. Anybody who loves taking window shots or videos will get the best view over the wings from these seats."
So if you're looking for the perfect spot to take those 'above the clouds' Instagram shots with a flash of the wing as you fly, you now know exactly where you want to be sitting next time you travel on a plane.
Users in the comments also pointed out that these spots were also usually the 'break-in points' of an aircraft, which is where emergency services would access the cabin in the event of an accident.
The flight attendant, who works for Cebu Pacific in the Philippines, also revealed why cabin crew often sit on their hands during takeoff.
She revealed that it is a "bracing position" which reduces the risk of physical injuries in the case of an emergency.
"This position involves fastening your seatbelt securely, sitting upright, sitting on your hands — palms up, thumbs tucked and arms loose — and placing your feet flat on the floor," she explained, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a rigid posture to minimize potential injuries during unforeseen emergencies.
Accompanied by a coworker, Lim showcased the posture they adopt ever takeoff and landing, during which time they will also do "silent reviews", making sure they are aware of everything around them should they need to spring into action in the event of an emergency.
"This includes being aware of emergency equipment locations, door operations, commands given, and any visual clues outside of the aircraft," she added.
Some of her followers believed it was "scary" that the crew has to be prepared for an emergency on every flight, commenting: "Good info. Always preparing for a crash is scary though."
Thankfully, the chances of anything going wrong during a flight are very small, but it's good to be prepared just in case.
