A defiant passenger has been praised for refusing to swap their business-class seat after a woman wanted them to switch with her husband.
A solo traveler shared a post on Reddit about their recent flight experience, explaining that a woman asked them if they were willing to trade their business-class seat with her husband so they could be together.
According to the user, they asked the fellow passenger where her spouse was seated, to which the woman revealed that he was in row 25, which was in the economy section.
Since the wife was trying to get her husband a spot in the more premium section of the aircraft without paying for it, the original poster wrote that they refused to accommodate their wishes.
The business-class passenger explained that their refusal left the woman outraged, so they told her to ask the person sitting next to her husband to trade seats in economy. However, their suggestion was not welcomed as the woman pointed out that she paid for the business-class seat, which prompted the Reddit poster to state that they did as well.
Despite the post being removed from the platform, many comments are still available, with the majority of users defending the traveler for not giving up their seat.
One user said: "If it was so important for them to sit together, why didn't they book two seats together? Oh, right, they deliberately bought one first class and one economy class ticket in hopes they could cajole some poor sucker to give up their first class seat."
Another remarked: "I can’t believe she thought this would work. What a moron," while a third added: "I wish more people would stand up to these entitled a***oles. Good for you."
A fourth person shared a similar experience, writing: "I've had that happen a few times. On one flight I traded my business class seat twice before everyone was even boarded to assist with family members sitting next to each other in business class.
"Then some dude comes up and asked me to trade with his girlfriend so they could sit next to each other (It was a 15-hour flight). I asked where she was and he said in 'priority' (Coach+) AND right next to a baby screaming its head off. I said 'no thanks' and he replied 'Thanks a lot a**hole'. All good though, I slept very well," they added.
One commenter chimed in that they’ve witnessed someone use this technique to get a seat upgrade without paying for it and, it actually worked.
"I saw it work once and was so mad on the person’s behalf. It was an older woman and a young couple asked her, and the girl actually started crying," they wrote.
"The older woman gave them her upgraded seat, and the minute she was gone, all the tears stopped," they continued."If you want to sit together, you give someone else your upgrade and take the lesser seats. End of story,"
Meanwhile, some people believed that the woman had never paid for a first-class ticket in the first place but was only upgraded to a better seat and her husband was not. "Because she didn’t pay for first class, she got upgraded, but her husband didn’t," one comment read.
Would you give up your business-class seat for another passenger?
