As many of you may have noticed (seriously, how could you miss it?), TikTok has become rather popular recently, as many people have turned to the interactive social media platform as a way of killing boredom during lockdown.
And it doesn't matter if you're not even on TikTok, because every single one of my social feeds has been full of dances and challenges that - being honest - leave me a little perplexed.
However, one TikTok user has left his viewers very concerned, after viewers spotted something "creepy" lurking behind him as he performed a dance routine.
The video was shared by TikTok user Reubix_Cube, and at first glance, it just appears to show himself simply busting some moves to Doja Cat’s 'Say So'. In the caption he wrote: "lmao i’m home alone so i learned a tiktok dance. lov u doja but what has my life come to? [sic]"
But after watching the clip, many social media users took to the comments section to point out that something or someone appeared behind Reubix_Cube as he gleefully danced away.
TikTok users then flooded Reubix_Cube's comments section, pointing out the bizarre figure.
One follower commented: "The AMOUNT OF ANXIETY I have from this video. That's someone literally poking their head TO LOOK AT YOU."
"There’s literally something behind you," another said.
"Did y’all see that in the background?" a third asked.
The original video has since amassed more than 1.9 million views, forcing Reu – the name he signs off with on his posts – to post a follow-up video responding to the "creepy" shadow.
Saying he is "alive and safe", Reu writes: "Thank you to everyone who was concerned. I'm kind stomach sick rn and I was in and out of sleep all of last night.
"It's weird to have so much attention on me right now but I have been reading some comments and I'll address questions later on today."
The TikTok user then asked anybody with questions to post them under his post, before adding: "It's 6am in my corner of the world and I need to catch up on some sleep. Sorry if I worried you guys."
Many people questioned the legitimacy of the video, suggesting it was staged so it would deliberately to go viral on the platform. One commenter wrote: "Obviously this is planned, the caption says ‘I was home alone,’ (he) wanted us to know."
However, Reu has since slammed the "absolutely audacity" of these claims in his follow-up video, saying that if he wanted to go viral, why would he post a video while he was "looking like that" (point taken).
The TokTokker then added: "I barely slept last night. I'm like 99% certain that it wasn't a person on the stairs - because the stairs are loud. [...] I definitely would have heard them."
