Over the years, we've seen plenty of bizarre trends spring up on Instagram; usually as a result of bored beauty bloggers trying to make their snaps look more interesting, shocking, or just plain weird. A few of them have impressed us with their technical skills, while others just make us ask why anyone would bother. But the latest Instagram trend is probably the most bizarre yet: and involves the subjects faking a nose job for the sake of those sweet, sweet likes.

The temporary nose job trend allegedly originates from Chinese social media, where beauticians are apparently sculpting their faces and making elaborate fake noses with special effects wax, before removing the plastic noses in front of the camera. Certainly, while jewellery has typically been confined to our earlobes, necks and fingers, one subversive designer has been crafting jewels exclusively for our sniffers. Yes, say goodbye to rhinoplasty and hello to adorning your snoz with diamonds and pearls.

Joanne T makes jewellery designed to frame your nose, having modelled them around her own snout.

"Beauty is a dependent entity," the designer said when speaking to i-D. "I believe it is heavily influenced by our surroundings since we are not born with an innate knowledge of it. How we perceive beauty is mainly through the influence of cultures, societies and mass media. Thus, rather than creating a general statement about beauty, I hope to question and challenge what beauty is.”

Joanne's multicultural upbringing - she hails from Klang, Malaysia - has had an impact on her design process. She is particularly interested in the growing popularity of plastic and cosmetic surgery in her native country. "When I was working on the nose jewellery collection, other than reading up on the history of tribal jewellery, I looked into the cosmetic surgical procedure and watched how the procedure was done,” she explained.

"I hope to challenge viewers and wearers ideas about the perception of beauty and self-identity. Why undergo cosmetic procedures to hide one’s flaws when you can embrace them and enhance them through jewellery?”

Above all, the Central Saint Martins graduate hopes that her creations will "bring the public’s attention to contemporary jewellery, expanding their view of what and how jewellery can be."

Over the last few months, it seems that every beauty blogger and makeup artist on Instagram is taking part in some secret quest to establish the weirdest beauty trend possible. Keeping up with the latest look is near impossible, though, because as soon as one strange aesthetic begins to dominate the internet, another one takes its place almost immediately. I don't think we've gone far enough yet." Yes, you read that correctly: somebody saw lips the shape of a Rorschach test and decided that something even more diabolical had to replace them. And thus, the nostril hair extension came to be. The distinctive look was established by Instagram user, @gret_chen_chen, who achieved the effect by sticking false eyelashes to the inside of her nostrils. Is it unique? Sure. Is it creative? Definitely. But is it a good look? Well, I'll leave that up to you to decide. [[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ1pCEGhF6t/]] Personally, looking at this sort of makes me terrified that a bunch of spiders are about to come pouring out of her face like something from a cheap horror film. It's gross, creepy, and simply not appealing. However, Allure magazine (who probably know a thing or two more about makeup than I do), seems to think it's a revolutionary move: 'The more I look at these nostril hair extensions, the more I'm into it. Let's be real, it's got a chic Twiggy vibe that cannot be ignored. I'm convinced that @gret_chen_chen and the creator of braided brows are on a higher level of genius that society needs to take some time before fully appreciating — you know, like Picasso or Van Gogh.' But where do we go from here? If we can put eyelashes up our noses, will we soon be putting them in our ears, too? Or how about attaching false nails to our teeth? Or - now here's an idea - why don't we just start adding extra eyebrows to our faces? You know, just chuck a couple on one cheek, or maybe one on the chin. I could go on, but I don't want to give people ideas. Thankfully, it seems like it's only this Instagram user that's sporting the nostril extension look for now, but I wouldn't bet on it staying that way. If it's become socially acceptable to leave the house covered in glitter and adorned in clothes that have more holes than a fishing net, shoving beauty accessories up your nose for the sake of fashion could soon become the norm. Regardless of whether it catches on or not, however, I will most certainly be keeping my nose hairs exactly as they are, thank you very much.

The worlds of beauty and fashion are ever changing, and if nothing else, they've taught us that every so often, we humans lose sight of all that is right and holy (well, that's what my grandma would say) and favor some seriously bizarre trends.

Cast in point, "moon brows". (I'll give you a clue: this one is all in the name.)

Yeah... That's something I've spent the 26 years without seeing, and to be honest, something I could easily have gone the rest of my life without ever knowing. Unless you're a model on a space-themed photoshoot, moon brows are never going to be a good idea.

And thankfully, there's an understandable twist in the story behind the viral moon brows pictures.

They aren't quite what they appear to be and have actually been photoshopped onto models by artist and modeling agent owner, Stefan James.

Prior to establishing Skyz Agency, James had an Instagram page dedicated to bizarre beauty and style trends, @skyzedits, which drew "comparisons between natural beauty and makeup, with an aim to highlight public interpretations of beauty in today's society."

He explained: "I gained some amazing friends and connections with the models who I did the edits of and now I personally manage them."

Speaking to UNILAD, James said that he created moon brows after Instagram influencer Hayley Bui told him how much she loves the moon.

"I just turned it into an eyebrow style as editing is my thing," he confessed.

While you'd expect reactions to moon brows to be predominantly negative, they've actually proved to be surprisingly divisive. Some social media users have said they "love" it, whereas others have branded moon brows "weird" and "scary".

"It's all about creativity for me," James ultimately said of his creation. "I guess closed minded people don't really like to see change. However, we're living in a new era and being creative and thinking outside the box is probably one of the best things."

Taco-bout making a statement. In a win for food-themed dress codes everywhere, a new street-food centric fashion trend is taking over the internet, thanks to a few stunning viral photos. The trend in question has seen select Instagram users turning their traditional eye shadow into everyone’s favorite Mexican menu item.

God bless you, internet, because taco makeup is now a thing... apparently.

The trend cleverly makes use of the natural taco-shaped curve of the human eye to help aspiring makeup artists to create vivid, lifelike depictions of their favorite food on their face. It’s now possible to find dozens of pictures posted all across Instagram, all using the hashtag #tacomakeup as an increasing number of users get to grips with the technique. One look at the results and it’s easy to see why everyone is on board.

Given that expertly recreating every detail of what can be quite a diverse dish on your own eyeball is obviously not easy, it’s fair to say that some attempts at taco makeup are much superior to others.

Some Instagrammers have managed to perfectly capture every component of a taco, from soft corn tortilla to tomatoes, ground beef and guac. Others have gone for a more abstract vibe, opting to leave the impression of a taco rather than waste time faffing with individual lettuce leaves. Every effort is, however, in its own way impressive.

While there are obviously plenty of people ready to be dismissive of any fad, the internet’s general response to the tacos seems to be pretty positive. Under one of the most popular posts, commenters left a range of enthusiastic reactions, ranging from “This is absolutely fantabulous,” to the slightly threatening “B*tchhh what I want to eat yo eye.” Whatever your thoughts, #tacomakeup is certainly a way to wear your foodie colors without doing any cooking.
