A couple has expressed outrage over the fine they received after pinning a pride flag to their mailbox.

Per NBC 6 News, Bob Plominski and Mike Ferarri hung their flag outside their home in Oakland Park, Florida, on June 1, as a tribute to Pride Month.

Four days later on June 5, the Eastland Cove Homeowners Association (HOA) sent a citation to the couple after receiving a complaint from a fellow resident.

The violation notice Plominski and Ferarri received in the post cautioned them to remove the offending article or face a $50 (£36) daily fine.

Per the above publication, the HOA claims that they are not being discriminatory; arguing that their rules stipulate that only American flags or those related to the military are permitted to be on display in the neighborhood.

Yet Plominski and Ferarri have refused to take their flag down; stating they have flown other flags in the past, including political ones, and have never received a single complaint before until now.

Speaking in a later interview with NBC, Plominski stated: "I got upset. We've done this before and it's a simple showing of our pride to the community and it's up for 30 days. We were in shock they were going to do that."

He continued: "It's going to stay up until June 30th. We as a community worked really hard to earn and get to where we are today. We're not going to back down on this one."

Meanwhile, Ferrari stated: "I really think the citation is because it’s a gay pride flag and someone in the neighborhood is offended, simple as that."

This incident comes not long after a proud father displayed an LGBTQ+ flag in his driveway to honor his own gay son.

According to Buzzfeed, 15-year-old Caden Wyatt, who hails from just outside Tulsa in Oklahoma, came out as gay to his parents John and Janell last year.

To that end, John hung an ally flag - which Caden and his mother bought at their city’s first Pride festival last spring - outside their family home in a gesture of love and support.

John then took to TikTok to share a video of the flag flying outside the Wyatt home, with Lady Gaga’s 'Born This Way' playing in the background. The proud father captioned the post:

"Happy Pride Month to y'all, especially to my son! Love you @cadenwyatt12."

His video clearly resonated with a lot of other TikTok users and has currently accrued over one million views, 406,000 reactions, and a further 17,000 comments at the time of writing.
