A man has caused uproar after he revealed that he wasn't able to sit next to his girlfriend on her birthday because the passenger sitting next to him refused to switch seats.
The passenger in question - an Aussie man who goes by the handle @jaykloss_ - took to TikTok to unleash what he calls "a serious rant", about the recent mile-high incident. The title of the almost three-minute clip was simply: "AM I IN THE WRONG?!"
Jay then goes on to explain how he'd booked two Business Class seats on a Virgin flight for himself and his girlfriend Zoe, with her being in a window seat and him in the opposite aisle. He then continued by saying that, while he wasn't able to book seats for the pair to sit next to each other, he assumed that the person sitting in aisle seats opposite himself and next to Zoe would be happy to switch for an identical seat on the other side of the aisle.
Apparently, Jay couldn't have been more wrong as he described how he'd asked a fellow passenger - who had the aisle seat next to Zoe's window seat - to switch with him so Jay could sit next to Zoe. The man then said to Jay: "No, I won't," before adding that he would switch on the condition that he could take Zoe's window seat instead of Jay's aisle seat.
Jay continues by revealing that Zoe doesn't travel well and that she has to sit in the window seat so she doesn't feel nauseous. Zoe then ends up asking the passenger to switch, at which point he refuses again. Fortunately for Jay, the man in the window seat next to him was willing to switch, so the two lovebirds were able to sit close for their flight.
"Am I missing something here?", Jay asks in the TikTok: "It's the same seat, just in a different aisle [...] Surely I'm not in the wrong here, please tell me."
And tell him they did! Thousands of commenters flocked to the video to reveal their opinions on the situation... and the responses were pretty one-sided.
"People don't have to say yes all the time it's ok to say no," one person wrote.
"The dude didn't have to give up his seat, even if it was the nice thing to do. Just gotta deal with people answering Y or N. Can't expect it to be Y," another comment read.
Someone else added: "So what if it's her birthday.. she's not 5. Book the seats you want in future. Simples."
A further user chimed in: "Your [sic] automatically assuming he needed to give up his seat to accommodate you?"
Jay also revealed that he gave the man that refused to switch a piece of his mind when they disembarked after the plane landed at its destination.
