Breakups can be really tough, especially when you've been dating for a long time and share a child together, and some can even get very messy.
But occasionally you'll hear of breakups that are completely amicable and a friendship has blossomed out of what is usually a heartbreaking event.
That's the situation Shaun Nyland and his partner Cat found themselves in. The two had been dating for seven years and had a child with each other, however, the pair remained best friends after parting ways romantically.
Shaun took to TikTok to reveal that he gave his ex the ultimate 31st birthday present by paying off her mortgage for being a great mother to their child.
During the video, Shaun says to Cat: "It's your birthday today, I want you to have the best birthday ever. And look, I know we're not together anymore, and I've been so proud of you, you're the best mum ever, so I did something. I rang up the bank, I paid off the entire mortgage. This house now belongs to you."
Cat is naturally suspicious of the claim, enquiring as to whether it's a wind-up, but Shaun put her mind at ease: "I promise you, this house belongs to you. I rang the bank and paid it off, you own this house."
Shaun instructs his ex-girlfriend to check her emails for confirmation from the bank, and when she does, a natural emotional response follows, with Cat being incredibly grateful for the present.
Viewers of the video also thought the gesture was extremely touching, with one saying: "Now that is a true gent respecting your baby mother and keeping a roof over your baby’s head take my hats of to you mate proper dad 👏."
A second said: "I am blown away by this! Absolutely beautifully amazing! We need more of this!" with a third adding: "Damn, I wish there's more genuine man [sic]! 😍👍 Congrats for both of you. You are awesome 🥰."
A fourth concluded: "THIS IS HOW YOU CO-PARENT🖤," and we couldn't agree more!
It's touching to see the pair genuinely caring for each other and being great parents!
