A bride has been taken to task over her unwillingness to invite her fiancé's 98-year-old grandmother to their wedding.

Taking to Reddit's "Am I The A**hole" (AITA) forum, the bride submitted the following question: "AITA for not wanting my fiancé's grandmother (98F) at our wedding?"

The bride, u/Legitimate_Scar_8747, introduced her dilemma by stating that it had caused a "serious argument" between her and her husband-to-be.

She went on to say that both she and the groom want their reception to be a "huge party for your adult friends and family with dancing, loud music, and an open bar."

The wedding, she explained, will be a child-free one.

U/Legitimate_Scar_8747 continued: "For precisely the same reasons that we don't want kids there, I don't want his elderly grandmother at our wedding either. I said she can come to the ceremony but not the reception.

"It will be extremely loud and I want it to be a party atmosphere, and she will be extremely out of place."

Unsurprisingly, her reasoning for not wanting her future grandma-in-law at the reception caused a "huge fight" between her and the groom.

It was also revealed that the 98-year-old grandmother had always dreamed about being at her grandson's wedding as he is her eldest grandchild and "she probably won't make it to the next family wedding."

U/Legitimate_Scar_8747 added: "She and he both insist that she will be fine and wants to go to the party. But I just know it will inevitably lead to us dealing with her and taking care of her, and I just want to get drunk and let loose with my friends."

The bride concluded the post: "She's now really upset and won't talk to me, and my fiancé is also angry. I think I am within my right to make this request, I am the bride after all."

However, despite her hardline stance on the matter, the overwhelming majority of Redditors who responded to the post deemed that she was, in fact, the "a**hole" in the situation.

One person referred to the bride as "coldhearted, extremely selfish and cruel."

Another wrote: "Seriously. Huge red flag to be marrying someone so cold."

A third said: "She wants to attend the wedding. If it’s not her scene, she has the option and capability to leave…Your making the decision for her, makes you the big time AH."
