Bride urged to get 'immediate divorce' after groom makes jaw-dropping error during wedding
A bride has been urged to divorce her new husband after she shared a video capturing the moment he made a mortifying mistake at their wedding.
Getting married is often one of the happiest days in a couple's life, as they bring their friends, families, and loved ones together to celebrate their union.
However, things can - and do - occasionally go wrong despite the months of meticulous planning, as one bride found out.
Emma, a newlywed from Brisbane, Australia, took to TikTok to share a clip of her and her husband exchanging vows at their recent wedding.
What's one of the worst things that can happen during a vow exchange? Saying the wrong name, of course.
In the clip, her husband can be heard calling her "Emily Grace Pomphrey" - as the bride then interjects: "Emma!", before he quickly repeats the correct name.
Now, you might be thinking that's an easy accidental slip to make... until she revealed that Emily is actually the name of her sister.
She captioned the video: "Plot twist: it’s my sisters name. Still not over being called Emily at the altar."
Though the couple and their guests were seen cracking up with laughter at the blunder, viewers in the comments took a largely different view.
They wrote: "I’m sorry I would literally had to end this right then and there, you just said the wrong name on our wedding day???," and: "Divorce him immediately."
Others added: "Id stop the wedding immediately," "This would put me in such a bad mood for the rest of the wedding," and: "Bring me back for the divorce."
Another commented: "oh and you went through with it?", and: "I can laugh a lot of things off… I just don’t think I could let this one slide."
Many viewers compared it to the infamous moment in the sitcom Friends, where Ross Geller accidentally says Rachel Green's name at the altar while marrying his fiancée Emily, as he was still in love with Rachel.
Some commenters took a less harsh view, writing: "it sounds like the person telling what to say said emily so maybe he repeated what they said without thinking?", to which the bride responded: "That what he reckons too! She did have an accent so it’s possible."
Another wrote: "Tbf, I’d cause myself the worst anxiety at my wedding that I’d tell myself all day not to say the wrong name (I’d have literally no reason to do that) but I hate public speaking. HATE. Your worst fears on what could go wrong, is just replaying in your head over and over again. We don’t know these people yall.. I’ll have to preface my vows with 'please forgive me for whatever I say or do next bc I am AWKWARDin front of crowds'."
One person pointed out: "Okay but who names their kids Emma and Emily."
Emma also defended her husband's slip of the tongue, adding: "If it was a random name I would have QUESTIONS. My sister is my best friend. I have no concerns."
