'Inbred woman' addresses how she found out her parents are actually brother and sister
A woman from a tiny New Mexico town has opened up in a series of TikTok videos about her extraordinary family background — her parents were siblings who stayed together and even seemed to take pride in their relationship.
Known online as Cameron, she didn’t hold back when sharing what it was like growing up with a family situation that most people would consider taboo.
Childhood Honesty and Schoolyard Reactions
In one video, Cameron explained that people in her community “knew about my parents being related,” and she says she didn’t hesitate to talk about it with peers.
“I would tell everyone in elementary school because I thought it was cool that my parents were siblings,” she said.
But school didn’t stay fun for long. Cameron recalled that a teacher eventually stepped in to caution her.
“It wasn’t until about until fifth grade that my teacher pulled me aside and she was like, ‘Um, I don’t think you should be telling people this’.”
Internet Reality Check
As she got older and gained access to the internet, Cameron says she learned that her upbringing wasn’t seen as normal outside her hometown.
It was then that she discovered just how “wrong” it actually was — a realization that shifted her perspective on her parents’ relationship.
Despite that awakening, her parents remain together to this day — and if TikTok comments are any indication, proud of it.
Asked by a commenter how she first learned that her parents were related, Cameron shared more on her upbringing in a separate clip.
“I compare it a lot to people who are adopted. It was never really shied upon. I think just because it’s so normalised in my neighbourhood," she said.
“I live in a really small town – so we just always knew. They were kind of proud of it!”
Strained Family Ties
Cameron also revealed that she doesn’t have a close relationship with her parents now — largely due to ongoing drama at home.
“They fight all the time,” she said. "I don’t really talk to them anymore just because, you know, they’re crazy. They live in a trailer park with hamsters everywhere.”
She also has a brother, though it’s unclear how close they are.
How the Love Story Began
Another TikTok sheds light on how her parents first connected: at the diner where her mum worked.
Her dad, fresh from a hunting trip, walked in — and the two started dating without even knowing they were related.
“They started dating before they even knew they were related,” she said. "If that helps a little bit.”
Inbreeding and Its Effects
Commenters on her videos have debated how inbreeding affects future generations. One commenter offered a comparison to historic families: “It takes a few generations of inbreeding before it really starts to show physical and mental characteristics.
“A good example is old royal families who’d only marry in the family to keep the money – eventually they’d start exhibiting certain things.”
Cameron also weighed in on this topic, saying that traits connected to inbreeding “don’t come out until further down in the lineage,” though she quipped that her brother is a bit “funky.”
