Liam Hemsworth files for divorce from Miley Cyrus
Earlier this month, fans of musician Miley Cyrus and Australian actor Liam Hemsworth were left shocked when the couple announced that they'd decided to split after being married for just eight months.
The pair first met while filming the musical rom-com The Last Song in 2009. Based on the Nicholas Sparks's bestselling novel, the movie tells the story of a rebellious teenage girl (Cyrus) who reconnects with her estranged father and falls in love with a beach volleyball player (Hemsworth).

Apparently, the chemistry between Cyrus and Hemsworth wasn't just a performance, and the two of them hooked up at some point during filming. They were embroiled in an on-again-off-again relationship for several years, and got engaged in June 2012, before eventually tying the knot in a very private ceremony in December of 2018.
Last week the couple decided to break up, allegedly after Miley was caught kissing actress, Kaitlynn Carter, while vacationing in Italy with friends. Some fans of the couple were hopeful that the breakup might be temporary, but now it seems that it could be permanent, as Liam Hemsworth has apparently filed for divorce.
The 29-year-old actor has now filed a petition to end his marriage to the 26-year-old pop star in a court in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Hemsworth's request allegedly states that he is asking for a dissolution of the marriage - adding that the couple does not have children.
In a recent post made on Instagram, Hemsworth appeared to imply that the breakup had been an amicable one. Posting a picture of a beach at sunset, he wrote: "Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward."
He added: "This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love [sic]."
Commenting on the situation, a spokesperson for the couple recently told People: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers."
They added: "They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy. [sic]"

However, it's not just music fans who have shown interest in the state of affairs between Miley and Liam. Indeed, social media users have unearthed tweets from President Donald Trump that appear to show that he was once very invested in the couple.
