As the rift between vegans and meat-eaters continues to grow, one vegan jogger's email has gone viral after they allegedly asking their neighbors to keep their windows closed while cooking, as they find the smells during their evening run "offensive".

The email was sent to and later shared by the neighbor -shaming Twitter page, @BestofNextDoor - a page that promises its 357.5K Followers "quality neighborhood drama".

A screenshot of the email was accompanied with the caption, "Meanwhile, in Berkeley...", with news.com.au reporting that the unnamed jogger lives in the San Francisco suburb of Berkeley, California.

The email reads:

"Please close your windows when cooking meat!!

"What's up neighborhood, one love

"As a vegan runner, it's always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up and folks start opening their windows.

"Several nights a week I’m out running around dinnertime and when people have their windows open I can smell what they are cooking. I've noticed a sharp uptick recently in smells of folks cooking meat and it can be quite overpowering.

"Quite honestly, the odor is offensive and I'm hoping our community can have some empathy for its #plantbased neighbors by closing their windows if they are cooking meat and only putting vegetables on their bbq.

"I don't want to be a stereotype so I won't go into detail on why the odor of cooking animals is offensive but I encourage you to do your research and join the movement of ppl who are fighting back.

"peace // love // bodhisattva"

As you can imagine, the jogger's message was respectfully received and the unnamed vegan's request was adhered to.

Oh, wait a minute, no it wasn't...

Since being shared to the Twitter page on February 29, the post has received 1.1K retweets and 9K likes (as of this writing). And the responses are the perfect combination of hilarious and hostile. Here are some of our favorites:

Matt Field replied to the tweet, writing: "As a carnivore bbq chef, it’s always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up and vegan runners start running by my windows."

And Twitter user Josh McLean joked: "'I don’t want to be a stereotype' at the end of a multi paragraph whine about how hard it is being vegan. This is performance art".

Julia Vaughn Black tweeted in response: "I'm a vegetarian, I haven't eaten meat in years and honestly the smell of meat cooking is even better than the taste of the meat itself. We are hard wired to like it. Dude is just hangry."
