Why are teenagers shouting '41' at each other? - Teacher claims it is the 'new 6,7'

If you’ve got a teenager, or you have to manage them in schools, you’ve probably noticed that they’ve got their own language to themselves.

That’s no different from any other generation, but that doesn’t mean that it is any more intelligible to adults.

So, you might have managed to understand ‘six, seven’, but can you figure out why kids are shouting '41' at each other?

Is ’41’ the new ‘6,7’ or not?

This won’t be a new phenomenon for any teachers reading - you’ll have heard all of this before.

After all, ‘6,7’ has been doing the rounds for a while now, and if you want to know what that means, we have the answer for you

However, high-schoolers are also yelling ’41!’ out loud in the corridors of their schools, and there doesn’t seem to be any good reason for it.

So, is there one?

The short answer is no - with a but.

It’s all part of the wider meme culture - those of a certain age will remember the internet 1.0 world of memes, they didn’t make much sense either, did they?

It’s all part of the wider ‘brain rot’ universe, which - again - doesn’t mean a whole lot.

While ‘6,7’ can sort of mean ‘so-so’ or - more accurately ‘mid - it actually comes from a song called Doot Doot (6 7) by rapper Skrilla.

41 also comes from a song, as we’ll let teacher and TikTok creator Mr Philip Lindsay explain

He told his followers: “The new meme that is trending, that kids aren’t saying quite yet but are starting to pick up on, is 41.

“It starts from a song by a rapper named Blizzy Boi and he says that he is 41 and he has 41 of everything ... and a creator Hooperville took this and has created the 41 hand movement.”

The creator went as far as to suggest that it could never the ‘opposite of 6, 7.”

Whatever that means, anyway.

Lindsay continued: “Lots of people are saying it’s the new six-seven and it’s going to trend even more and even longer.”

Oh, great.

But what does ’41’ actually mean?

In truth, nobody knows - it means everything and nothing, nothing and something

Lindsay refers to it as ‘meaningless’ but we also have to consider the idea that the youngsters simply know something we don’t.

Or perhaps not.

Anyway, with the kids now back at school after the summer break, it’s likely that more and more people are going to be hearing this and asking themselves the same question.

Perhaps you don’t need to understand it, and that’s fine.
