A grieving mother shared the final photo taken of her daughter, just two hours before the 21-year-old died.
The image, which was posted on Reddit's r/lastimages forum by user apocaloptimistnow, shows a smiling image of her daughter, Chelsea, during celebrations for the milestone birthday.
Alongside the heartwarming snap, she penned: "Last photo of my daughter. She was killed two hours later. We were celebrating her 21st birthday. I made her from scratch and she was my best friend."
Many users on the platform were left stunned by the contrast between the cheerful image and the heartbreaking reality.
One commenter wrote: "She looks like a person that makes other people happy just by being around them." Her mother replied: "She is. Was. She very much was. That was the sentiment most expressed by people after."
Another user told the mom: "She was stunningly beautiful and I can see the sparkle and fun in her eyes... and her happiness at being with you for such a special occasion."
"I am sorry beyond words. I can't imagine what it's like to have such a joyful, precious light in your life and to lose it in the blink of an eye," they added.
As the post gained attention, many people asked Chelsea's mother to share more.
One user asked: "Any favorite story of yours of her?"
The mom's response touched thousands of readers. "She used to ask me to reverse French braid her hair all the time because it made her feel like a dinosaur," she recalled. "This wasn't just a little girl thing. She still wanted it for the same reasons when she was 20."
"She was the best. Ridiculous and goofy and just a light wherever she went," she added.
In another comment, she opened up more of the bond they shared: "She was ridiculous. I couldn't ever be mad at her because she would make me laugh in the middle of it. She had no shame so she would always do whatever goofy thing I asked in public."
Chelsea's mother also described her as "profoundly kind and generous," explaining that she regularly stayed up all night helping friends through difficult times.
"She would rather hang out with me than anything else," she wrote. "She couldn't touch her toes and she was terrified of octopuses."
"She would stay up all night talking to a friend in need, and she never once forgot to get me a gift for Valentine’s Day 'because mom love is real love.' She was everything good about me," she concluded.
The mom revealed that after her daughter passed away, her friends raised more than $5,000 in her memory and donated the money to a local animal rescue organization.
Later, the shelter used part of those funds to rescue a pregnant hound.
When Chelsea's mother saw a photo of the dog, she realized it was the exact same animal she and her daughter had been discussing before her death.
The dog later gave birth to six puppies, five of which survived.
"The mama dog’s name was Luna, and each of the pups were named after a heavenly body and referred to as Chelsea’s Pups on adoption sites and such. Luna was treated for heart-worm with the remaining money, and was successfully rehomed - she now lives with Chelsea’s grandparents and is a very happy and spoiled hound," she penned.
