A woman has been branded "deranged" by her friends after sending her ex a "ridiculous" text message over a baby name.

Speaking to Kidspot, a woman (who chose to remain anonymous) told the publication the story of how she split up with her ex-boyfriend four years ago after dating for two.

However, upon hearing that her ex was due to have a baby with his new partner, she immediately picked up the phone and sent him a message.

This message wasn't one of the congratulations on the happy news either. On the contrary; this message was what the woman in question called: "an insurance policy."

As it turns out, the woman had called shotgun on a baby name which she herself had picked for her daughter while they'd still been together.

After hearing about his new girlfriend's pregnancy, she decided to text him to make sure he didn't use the name she'd picked: Amelia.

As the woman herself explained to Kidspot:

"I wrote in no uncertain terms that the name Amelia was my baby name and not to be used by him under any circumstances. There were no pleasantries, no congratulations just straight to the point.

"Given the fact that we don’t even speak to each other, I am sure him receiving this text would have taken him by surprise; but I also think it would have been enough for him to get the message, literally, which is all I wanted."

However, when the woman informed her friends about what she'd done, they reacted badly, questioning her motivations in sending the message.

As she described: "They thought I was ridiculous and slightly deranged. 'Why would you send Mick a text about a baby name? You’re not even close to having kids of your own, so why do you even care?' they asked me.

"One even said that I was self-obsessed assuming he would do this, that she was sure he didn’t care enough about me to be so petty. They questioned why he would want a reminder of me in his life, within his own child."

However, the woman remained adamant that she'd done the right thing, stating: "My ex never replied to me, but it had that little ‘seen’ confirmation next to my message, so I know he received it and looked at it.

"Still, I wasn’t sure whether he would take on board what I had said or if it would do the opposite and put the name back in the forefront of his mind."

She finished by saying that, four months later, she learned that he'd decided not to name his child Amelia, so she was satisfied her plan had worked.
