Three people were shot at a baby shower in Pennsylvania after a family argument broke out over gifts at the event, police said.

As reported by CNN, police officers in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, responded to a call minutes after 6:00PM on Saturday, September 18, after an individual began opening fire at the Kinloch Fire Department.

When police arrived at the scene, they managed to find the suspect as he was exiting the fire department and arrested him without incident.

"Preliminary investigation shows the family argument began and turned physical, and then a suspect introduced a nine-millimeter semi-automatic handgun, firing off rounds," Lower Burrell Police Chief John Marhefka said at a news briefing, per USA Today News.

According to Marhefka, the argument was over the baby shower presents. The disagreement turned physical and eventually, the suspect "introduced a nine-millimeter semiautomatic handgun" and fired three shots into the crowd of about 25 people.

Police said a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy were injured during the shooting. The young victims were rushed to nearby hospitals and Marhefka has since said that the gunshot wounds were not life-threatening, USA Today News reports.

As reported by Tribune-Live, the suspect is believed to be 25-year-old Isiah J. Hampton and is reportedly the father of the unborn baby the shower had been held for. An argument supposedly broke out over whether Hampton would transport gifts.

According to the outlet, the father-to-be was arrested by police and is currently being held at Westmoreland County Prison.

He has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person, as per the court records.

Lower Burrell police wrote on Facebook the day after the shooting: "This investigation is being investigated by the Lower Burrell Police Department in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau."

They went on to explain: "The suspect was taken into custody without incident. However, this was not an active shooter situation but rather an isolated family incident during a baby shower."

The post added: "All victims were transported to area hospitals and their injuries are unknown at this time. This remains an active investigation."
