Did you know that Saturday, May 1 marks the 17th annual World Naked Gardening Day? Me neither.

However, it turns out it is a very real thing, and people all over the world are celebrating by ditching their clothes, grabbing the shears, and trimming their bush (too easy?).

According to the day's official website, there is no political agenda behind WNGD. The site says that the first reason people should get involved is because "it's fun".

"Second only to swimming, gardening is at the top of the list of family-friendly activities people are most ready to consider doing nude," the site reads.

"Moreover, our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment, it adds. "Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us -- even if only for those few sunkissed minutes -- that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet."

And it may seem very "Calendar Girls", but looking at the pictures people have been sharing online, it all does seem to be a lot of fun:

In order to take part, the official website says you need to "find an opportunity to get naked and do some gardening.

"Do so alone, with friends, with family, with your gardening club, or with any other group collected for that purpose."

In fact, building a "community among people of every stripe" is one of the main benefits listed on the website.

So there you have it - I guess there really is a day for everything nowadays.

Either way, if you're up for it, don't forget to mind the thorns, steer clear of the cactus, and don't even think about going anywhere near the chainsaw.
