Woman employed on 2,000-person nude cruise explains 'no nips, no bits' rule every passenger must follow on-board
A woman who worked on a nude cruise carrying 2,000 passengers revealed some of the rules all the passengers have to abide by on board.
A nude cruise might not be everyone's vacation of choice, but for those who embrace the freedom of ditching their clothes around other likeminded strangers, it can be a truly liberating experience.
However, while the clothing may be optional, the rules for people joining the ship are not - and an insider has revealed some of the ones that are strictly enforced.
Kat Whitmire, organizer of the nude‑cruise company Bare Necessities, explained to Business Insider that while nudity is permitted in most areas of the ship, there are some places where clothing must be worn.
She told the outlet: "[An] important rule is the need to wear some form of clothing at dinner, to prevent regrettable spills and maintain hygiene.
"Dinner in the formal dining room has a dress code, largely because the waitstaff carries trays of hot food. 'No nips, no bits, and no butts' is what I always say to remind people of our dinner-dress code.
"Dinner is the only time guests must wear real clothes — no mesh, nothing see-through, and nothing made of string."
That does make total sense, particularly from a hygiene standpoint, as well as protecting diners in case they spill some burning hot soup in their lap...
Another question nude cruise novices raised was what happens if a man gets visibly 'excited' while on board.
Whitmire revealed: "Men can’t be overly excited. We say that if they start to feel things around moving down there, jump in cold water, or think about baseball."
While it may be a nude cruise, the vibe is definitely not sexual - it's for people who embrace the nudist lifestyle rather than swingers.
According to a former passenger who posted on Reddit, erections “almost never happen” on board.
He wrote: "This cruise is very non-sexual, so a man would want to hide it somehow. Non-nudists think about this a lot more than nudists do."
While guests may join the ship with the desire to shed their clothing, costume party nights are surprisingly one of the highlights on board.
Whitmire revealed: "We’ve repeated some wildly popular theme nights. Nudists, surprisingly, love costumes."
Recalling one memorable passenger, she added: "My favorite costume ever was a man who dressed as a tequila bottle. He had a cork on his head. His body was the bottle. You just have to imagine what the worm was. I never laughed so hard in my life."
Whitmire and her husband first joined the cruise as models, after being approached by a friend who worked there as a photographer. They returned later as general staff.
In 2010 Whitmire became a sales associate, and then moved into her current role as a full-time cruise organizer.
She added: "To us, being nude is not sexual or anything to be ashamed of."
