An American woman who lives in Australia has revealed the main differences between  McDonald's in the US and the one Down Under.

Visiting one particular McDonald's restaurant in Australia with some friends, Annika Swanson noticed a number of major differences to the menu.

According to Annika, who shared some of the differences in a video posted to TikTok, the items were more expensive despite portion sizes being smaller. She also revealed that certain items could only be purchased at certain times of the day.

"We're at Australian McDonald's. I cannot get over the McChicken is $7.35. It's way cheaper in America," she began her video, which has since racked up over 300,000 views, 27,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

The video was a response to a comment left on a previous video, in which a user demanded to know: "Why would you come all the way to Australia to have American style c**p."

The commenter went on to advise Annika to "get out there and try the local stuff."

Deciding not to address the displeased commenter, she added: "You also can't get McChickens after certain times. Oh brother."

Annika then revealed that there was a potato scallops option on the menu, saying: "That is something we don't have in America. The same with all of this."

She went on to show her followers than a whole page on the menu was dedicated to a range of delicious toasties, with fillings including ham and cheese and cheese and tomato.

The content creator also pointed out that macaroons and sparking water were available on the Australian menu - unlike its American counterpart.

"They also have three piece McNuggets, which they don't have in America, which is what I'm getting," Annika said.

One of the friends who accompanied Annika to Aussie McDonald's described the chicken nuggets as "teensy" and gave them a 7.5 out of 10.

"Good flavor, too small," she added.

A different friend shared that they were given a small portion of sauce along with their meal, which isn't offered in American McDonald's.

A third friend jokingly commented that the amount of sauce "seems illegal".

The comments left on the video were mainly from Australians defending their version of McDonald's and also criticizing Annika for how she chooses to spend her time abroad.

One person wrote: "'I got the 3 piece mcnugget... but there's not much there'... umm, how many nuggets were you expecting in the 3 piece..."
