When it comes to personal grooming, we all have our own tried and tested methods for keeping ourselves clean, and while the only real requirement is getting the job done, one woman has sparked an intense debate online by opening up about her shower habit.
Alice, who goes by the Twitter handle @Backpainandwine, tweeted: "Help me settle a debate.
"It's normal to shower with your back to the shower right? Not facing the water?" she asked.
While she might have only expected a few replies, the question struck a chord with Twitter users, and soon thousands of people had weighed in on Alice's question.
And one thing is clear from the replies: there is really no one size fits all when it comes to taking a shower.
One Twitter user wrote: "I face the water to keep my hair from getting wet and then spin round and hold my hair out of the way to do my back."
A second concurred, adding: "You face away from the shower unless you’re strange."
Meanwhile, a third Twitter user revealed that they take a shower just like Alice.
They wrote: "I don't like my face in the water at all, unless I've had a terrible day and you do that thing they do in films, where you put your hands on the wall and lean forward with your hair streaming down, like you've just blown up an entire planet and need some time to think [sic]."
A fourth agreed, writing: "i'm back to shower too, I can't stand the water getting into my eyes, and since my back can take hot water much better than the front, it's a no brainer for me [sic]."
However, a fifth Twitter user revealed that they sit somewhere in the middle of the two camps.
They wrote: "Both. Forwards to wash my bod and back to wash my hair."
A sixth agreed, adding: "I do both. Facing when washing front, not facing when washing the back. Side on for each side. Like a watery rotisserie."
All of which begs the question: how do you take a shower?
