Need a little something to brighten up your quarantine? A tropical home makeover perhaps? Well, Home Depot is selling a very striking pineapple plant, which sprouts an inedible pineapple from its large center stem.

According to the manufacturer Pure Beauty Farms, the ornamental succulent is part of the Bromeliad family, which is typically native to tropical climates but can also thrive in indoor environments.

If you're interested in learning more about the item, take a read of the product overview:

"It has swordlike spiny green leaves, formed in a dense rosette, with the fruit held in the center on a tall sturdy stalk. Being a sun lover it can be grown on a sunny kitchen windowsill, a sun room or just about anyplace where it will receive about 6-hours or so of sunlight.

"Many people grow them indoors in the winter and place them outside in a sunny location during the warmer months. The ornamental pineapple plant makes a unique living gift for someone with a taste for the exotic.

"This strikingly spiky pineapple plant will give any home or office a tropical transformation. Allow the soil to dry out between watering."

It appears based on social media posts that many buyers did not specifically set out to buy the tropical ornament, but were simply drawn to it when they saw it at the home improvement store.

One person wrote: "Went to Home Depot to buy ONE plant and an old man convinced me to buy 5 different house plants and a pineapple plant."

Another added: "Of all the random quarantine purchases I’ve made these past few weeks, this one tops the list. I blame Milly, it was her idea to buy a pineapple tree"

A third said: "I AM NOT KIDDING ABOUT THE BABY PINEAPPLE PLANT. Here at Home Depot."

As an "essential retailer", Home Depot currently remains open amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
