Over 70,000 people have signed a petition to expel Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House of Representatives after she compared coronavirus-related mask guidelines to the Holocaust.

Her comment sparked mass fury among Americans who called for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to ensure Greene be "immediately expelled from Congress".

The petition has already racked up more than 70,500 signatures at the time of writing, despite being created on Sunday (May 23).

Greene, who has been a vocal supporter of ex-POTUS Donald Trump, defended her Holocaust comments on Saturday, which she made in an interview on Real America's Voice.

In the interview, she called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "mentally ill", before adding: "You know, we can look back in a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens, so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany."

She went on: "And this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about."

The petition was created by David Weissman, an Army veteran who once supported Trump but has since reversed his political stance, per Business Insider.

The petition, made on Change.org, calls on Republican House leader McCarthy to remove Greene from Congress.

It reads: "Her recent comments comparing Covid-19 CDC guidelines to the Holocaust are deeply offensive and are just one of the many different ways she's violated her oath as a member of Congress."

It's not the first time Greene has come under fire for her controversial comments.

She previously sparked outrage for suggesting the 2018 California wildfires were caused by Jewish-controlled space lasers, per New York Magazine.

She told Newsmax TV: "This is a story that some leftist 'journalist' — really he's an activist — wrote a hit piece on me and titled it 'Jewish Space Lasers'.

"You know, the left-wing media, they just run the same lies over and over again and they call me an anti-Semite and say that I said something like Jewish space lasers, and I never did."
