Heather Graham makes intimate confession about her relationship with late actor Heath Ledger
Actor Heather Graham has opened up about her past relationship with Heath Ledger, making a rare and heartfelt confession about the late actor more than two decades after their time together.
The Boogie Nights and The Hangover star, now 55, dated the Australian actor between 2000 and 2001 – a brief but meaningful romance that she still looks back on with deep affection.
Speaking on the Are You a Charlotte? podcast, hosted by Sex and the City actress Kristin Davis, Heather revealed how deeply she’d fallen for the Brokeback Mountain star.
“I was very in love with him when we dated. He’s kind of amazing,” she said, adding that she still misses talking to him and often reflects on their time together.
“I wish he was still alive”
During the emotional discussion, Heather shared that she still feels proud of the relationship they shared.
“I have some really cool pictures from when we dated. I feel proud that I dated him... It was fun,” she said.
“I wish he was still alive, that would be nice. But some of these really bright lights don’t get to live so long.”
Kristin Davis, who recalled seeing the pair together years ago, added that the two “were just this ray of light” when spotted out in Los Angeles.
“You were kind of giggly and touching each other... you were cute,” Davis reminisced.
A whirlwind romance in Prague
Heather and Heath first met in 2000 while both were filming separate projects in Prague.
The chemistry was instant, and they quickly became one of Hollywood’s most adored young couples at the time.
In February 2021, Heather also reflected on their romance in a touching Instagram post, sharing previously unseen photos of their year together and calling Heath “a special person.”
“Going through my photos I found these,” she wrote.
“Just remembering this time. Heath was such a special person.”
The photos showed glimpses of their private life, including one of Heather with her arms wrapped around Heath’s neck, and another of the young actor taking a mirror selfie with a film camera.
Heath Ledger’s legacy and tragic death
Though their relationship was short-lived, Heath went on to date Naomi Watts after meeting her on the set of Ned Kelly, and later fell in love with Michelle Williams while filming Brokeback Mountain.
He and Michelle welcomed their daughter, Matilda, in 2005.
“We just fell very deeply into each other’s arms,” Heath told The Observer at the time. “I always knew I would be a young father.”
After their split in 2007, Heath’s struggles with insomnia and exhaustion reportedly worsened. On January 22, 2008, the world was devastated to learn the actor had died in New York City at age 28 from an accidental overdose.
Even now, nearly two decades later, Heather Graham’s words serve as a tender reminder of the warmth and brilliance that Heath Ledger brought into the lives of those who loved him.
