On Wednesday (October 16), it was reported that Payne had tragically died at the age of 31 after a tragic fall at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The singer had been staying at the CasaSur hotel, with staff making a call to the emergency services expressing concern for an unnamed male guest, per BBC News.

As police arrived at the scene, they were informed that a guest - who was later identified as Payne - had tragically fallen from their third floor room balcony and landed in the hotel's interior courtyard.

Payne suffered multiple serious injuries, with first responders stating there had been "no possibility of resuscitation".

Now, Cheryl Ann Tweedy - Liam's former partner and mother to his son - has issued a tribute on social media.

In her statement, Cheryl not only paid tribute to the father of her son, but also called for social media users to consider their responses to what is being reported in the tabloids, and not speculate on the circumstances surrounding Payne's death.

She wrote in a statement shared to Instagram: "As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being."

"Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.

"What is troubling my spirit the most is that one day Bear will have access to the abhorrent reports and media exploitation we have seen in the past two days. It is breaking my heart further that I cannot protect him from that in his future.

"I am begging you to consider what use some of these reports are serving, other than to cause further harm to everyone left behind picking up the pieces. Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to rad them.

"Please give Liam the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death to rest in some peace at last.

"Thank you, Cheryl."

Liam and Cheryl first met when Payne auditioned for The X Factor at the age of 14 back in 2008, where Cheryl was a judge - and again when he returned to the show in 2010. Their romantic relationship, however, would blossom eight years later in 2016.

They made their relationship official with a red-carpet appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016.

In March 2017, the couple welcomed their son, Bear Grey Payne.

Despite the strong start, the relationship faced challenges. The couple was subject to constant media scrutiny and rumors about troubles in their relationship. In July 2018, Liam Payne and Cheryl announced their separation via Twitter, stating that it was a mutual decision and emphasizing their continued love for their son.

They expressed their commitment to co-parenting their child even though their romantic relationship had ended.

Our thoughts continue to go out to Payne's family, friends, and fans at this time.
