Just weeks before his death at the age of 76, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne shared a deeply personal and memorable moment with his daughter, Kelly Osbourne, during what would become his final public appearance.
The bittersweet occasion took place at Back to the Beginning, a star-studded concert at Villa Park in Birmingham earlier this month. Billed as Ozzy’s farewell performance following years of health challenges, the event marked not only a milestone in rock history, but also a significant family moment for the Osbourne clan.
Performing seated on a custom black throne adorned with jewelled skulls, the Black Sabbath frontman delivered a solo set before reuniting with original bandmates Terence “Geezer” Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward for the band’s first performance in two decades.
“Let the madness begin,” he declared to the crowd, adding, “It’s so good to be on this stage,” as chants of “Ozzy” echoed through the venue.
But the emotional farewell held an even greater personal significance backstage, where Kelly Osbourne’s partner, Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson, proposed in front of her parents.
The moment, later shared on social media, showed Wilson dropping to one knee while Ozzy looked on. In true form, the heavy metal icon injected humor into the occasion, reportedly quipping: “F*** off, you’re not marrying my daughter,” before Wilson continued with his heartfelt proposal.
“Kelly, you know I love you more than anything,” he said. “Nothing would make me happier than spending the rest of my life with you.”
Kelly, 40, who has been in a relationship with Wilson since 2022, accepted the proposal. The couple share a two-year-old son named Sidney.
The engagement marks Kelly’s third, following previous engagements to Luke Worrall and Matthew Mosshart, according to Grazia UK.
In recent interviews, Kelly described her father as her “best friend,” revealing that she dedicated much of her time during pregnancy to being with him.
“My dad is not the way he used to be, since the Parkinson’s and surgeries and everything that happened,” she said. “So I dedicate my life to spending as much time with him as I possibly can.”
The Back to the Beginning concert, organized by Sharon Osbourne, was conceived as a way for Ozzy to thank his fans while raising funds for causes close to the family; Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
With an all-star lineup and tributes from across the music industry, the event became a fitting closing chapter to Ozzy Osbourne’s public life – one that included not only his final bow to fans, but also the joy of witnessing his daughter’s next chapter begin.
