A representative for the 47-year-old former NFL star told PEOPLE that the report claiming Brady said Vergara, 53, was "too old" for him is completely false.

“Tom never said, nor would he ever say, anything like this. It is pure fiction,” the rep stated.

Rumors of a possible connection between Brady and the Modern Family star began swirling after the two were seen mingling during an exclusive gathering aboard Ritz-Carlton’s new luxury superyacht, Luminara, in early July.

According to Page Six, Brady reportedly requested to sit next to Vergara at dinner during the high-profile event. Soon after, Vergara posted a photo to Instagram that featured the pair seated side by side. In the image, singer J Balvin kisses Vergara on the forehead while she laughs with her eyes closed, as Brady smiles directly at the camera.

Despite the buzz, TMZ later reported that while Brady and Vergara were enjoying the yacht trip together, the two are not romantically involved.

The lavish yacht party was part of Luminara’s maiden voyage, a two-night Mediterranean cruise from Rome to Malta, and hosted a crowd of around 400 high-profile guests.

Other attendees included Martha Stewart, Naomi Campbell, Ricky Martin, Kate Hudson, Nina Dobrev, Shaun White, Kendall Jenner, and Brady’s rumored former flame Irina Shayk.

Both Brady and Vergara have been publicly single. Brady finalized his divorce from supermodel Gisele Bündchen in 2022; they share two children, and he also has a son, Jack, 17, with ex Bridget Moynahan.

Vergara, meanwhile, shares a 32-year-old son, Manolo, with her ex Joe Gonzalez and split from actor Joe Manganiello in 2023 after seven years of marriage.

In a May appearance on TODAY with Jenna Bush Hager, Vergara candidly discussed the challenges of dating post-divorce.

“I panicked a little,” she admitted, reflecting on reentering the dating world. She added that she’s looking for someone who is “healthy,” “fun,” and ideally tall and financially stable.

“I want somebody that has as much money as me or more, because if not, it’s a nightmare. They end up resenting you,” she said with a laugh. “I need fun in my life.”

Though rumors continue to swirl, both stars appear to be focused on enjoying life — and, for now, remaining firmly in the friend zone.
