And in a heartbreaking post to X, the professional MMA star wrote: "What's the purpose of life if what we're fighting tooth and nail to get away from is what finally hit us the hardest!?

"Why is life so unfair and merciless?

"Why does life always take what we don't have? I'm f**King tired."

The MMA and boxing world has shared their condolences with Ngannou's family, with Conor McGregor writing: "I am so sorry to hear of your loss Francis, my prayers are with you and your family at this time."

Chris Cyborg responded with a prayer, typing: "Dear lord, I pray you comfort Francis and his family. Surround him with your love and ensure he is protected by your guidance as he grieves this loss. Give him the strength to know that heaven is eternal and they will be together soon as this life is just a blink of an eye."

A former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Ngannou has made waves in the combat sports world in recent years. His foray into boxing captured headlines, with the heavyweight titan nearly toppling lineal champion Tyson Fury in his professional boxing debut.

Ngannou's remarkable performance saw him land a knockdown blow against the undefeated Fury during their intense 10-round bout.

However, his subsequent boxing match against Anthony Joshua ended in disappointment. Ngannou faced defeat after being knocked out by Joshua in the second round of their much-anticipated clash in March.

Our thoughts are with Ngannou's family and loved ones at this time.
