The mother of Todd and Julie Chrisley's adopted daughter is fighting to regain custody of the child after the pair were sentenced for tax evasion.

As reported by WSB-TV Atlanta, Todd Chrisley, 53, and his wife and Julie, 49, were sentenced to a combined total of 19 years imprisonment.

During their hearing, Todd asked for leniency for his wife so the children wouldn't be without a parental figure but US District Judge Eleanor Ross stated the crime "has to be burdened by the defendants."

The pair adopted their granddaughter Chloe Chrisley in 2016. She is the child of Todd's estranged son Kyle and his ex-partner Angela Johnson, as per People.

Angela had joint custody of her daughter with Todd after Kyle lost his parental rights due to drug addiction. She was later arrested for "allegedly filing a false application for Medicaid assistance," giving Todd sole custody, per TMZ.

Chloe's mother - who has now put the case behind her - is intending to fight for custody of her daughter after Todd and Julie were sentenced to 12 and seven years in prison respectively.

Speaking to TMZ, Angela said: "As of right now, I haven't filed any legal papers but I am in the process of getting some legal papers filed so I can go back to court and get Chloe back home.

"In that timeframe that Chloe's been gone, I was talking to attorneys and we were trying to figure out which way to go about getting Chloe back home," she continued.

She went on to explain that she was at a bit of a "standstill" with her legal team, as they tried to figure out where they would end up in court. Angela is based in South Carolina and the Chrisleys call Tennessee home.

Todd and Julie's daughter Savannah Chrisley also announced plans to become the guardian of her younger brother Grayson, as well as Chloe, per the Daily Mail.

Speaking on the podcast Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley, the 25-year-old discussed the possibility of becoming a legal guardian after her parents' sentencing.

Considering the hardships of raising children, she said: "'I think that's the hardest part, is me trying to navigate how to teach two children who aren't fully developed yet. That, and how to navigate the circumstances. That's a really difficult thing.

"I have to be a positive role model for Chloe and Grayson," she added. "No matter how hard it gets, I have to show up."
