A TikTok user has sparked debate after seemingly not realizing the actual function of a nutcracker - despite the answer being very obviously in the name.
The user - who goes by the handle @dave.winford - uploaded a video of a large nutcracker, which was accompanied by a text overlay that read: "I was today years old when I found out nutcrackers crack nuts..."
While the name might be pretty self-explanatory to some, I don't blame the guy considering no one actually uses the traditional, soldier-shaped nutcrackers like they used to anymore.
And since they're pretty pointless at their original job - with many modern ones no longer being made with a functioning mouth to crack nuts - it's only normal to assume that they are just pretty, little decor pieces for the festive season, right? Or is that only me and Dave?

Well, the short clip gained some traction online and it seems as though most people on TikTok knew how the little tool should be used.
"Where have you been???" Asked one user.
"Clue's in the name really," added another.
A third threw a sarcastic comment in there, saying: "wait 'till you find out what a juicer does."

However, on Twitter, social media users were enlightened by the discovery.
"Nutcrackers are actually used to crack nuts… I was today years old," tweeted one user.
"'You’re telling me that nutcrackers can actually crack nuts?' -Me, Thanksgiving 2022", said another.
Another user explained that while they knew what it was, they aren't shocked that other people don't.
"TBF the mmodern-daynutcrackers would probably break if you actually used them to crack nuts. But for people not to know that a nutcracker is used to crack nuts is kinda funny. As an aside, we always call them 'crackerman'. It's what our son called them when he was little."
While nutcrackers seem to become a thing around Christmas, they are actually for use all year round and even though they might not be used for their original purpose as much anymore, they look pretty good on a mantlepiece or around the tree, that's for sure.

Well, there you go, you learn something new every day!
