As the nation says goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II, the new Princess of Wales has once again captured the hearts of the nation.

Arriving at Westminister Abbey for the state funeral service of her late grandmother-in-law, a photographer captured Princess Catherine looking beautifully elegant and regal prior to exiting her car.

Dressed in a black ensemble, the 40-year-old mom-of-three completed the look with a stunning triple-string pearl choker and drop earrings - which were reportedly from Queen Elizabeth II's personal jewelry collection.

The stunning photograph was taken by photographer Hugo Philpott.

Sharing the image to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Wow. The Princess of Wales today arriving at Westminster Abbey"

Another Twitter user replied: "The Princess of Wales looking so regal."

A third wrote alongside the image: "The Princess of Wales. Effortlessly regal and elegant. Paying tribute to the Queen wearing the monarch’s Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings."

Another added: "The Princess of Wales is so regal and classy. Iconic picture."

This was echoed by another social media user, who wrote: "Princess of Wales. This is an iconic image in the making."

"Epitome of elegance and beauty. Catherine Princess of Wales", another wrote alongside the adored photo.

The admiration and striking elegance mirrors the same praise the Princess received after a photo of her arriving at Prince Philip's funeral last year was widely shared on social media.

That particular image was captured by photographer Chris Jackson, who photographed Princess Catherine staring directly into the camera as she arrived by car to the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle on April 17.

She was even wearing the same pearl choker necklace.

Despite a mask covering her face, the Duchess is a vision of grace and beauty on what was another solemn day for her family and the nation.

Sharing the image to his personal Twitter account, Jackson wrote at the time: "The Duchess of Cambridge leaves Windsor Castle to join the procession to St George’s Chapel at HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral today."

And, like today's photo, it was met with praise from social media users, with one person writing: "Stunning photo and will be seen many, many times over the years to come."

A second supporter wrote: "This photo will be iconic. Well done, Chris. It’s stunning."

A third replied: "What's noteworthy is that she doesn't even try - this is just her. She's simply sitting in a car, looking out the window. She truly has no idea how beautiful she is. This is an otherworldly photo."

This afternoon, the Queen's coffin is expected to make a 1.5-mile journey to Wellington Arch, being transferred to a hearse before moving to Windsor Castle late this afternoon.
