A shocking video of a takeout worker using a blow torch to cook chicken has emerged on social media and left people stunned.

Two clips have circulated online of what seems to be raw meat being cooked with a blowtorch in an alleyway of a diner in Middlesbrough, UK.

One video - which has been viewed more than 559,7K times - shows a worker donning an apron and blue gloves and holding the explosive device to cook the chicken in what appears to be a cage on wheels.

The man filming the bizarre scene can be heard saying "F***ing hell" as the staffer notices the camera while holding a pipe attached to a propane gas tank. A piece of cardboard can also be seen placed underneath.

Check out the shocking videos below:

Another video which is just as stomach-curdling - and has amassed 244,5K views - shows another employee blow-torching raw chicken through the bottom of a shopping cart, in a place surrounded by trash bags.

Both clips have led to a huge reaction on social media, with many users on Twitter alerting the local council to take action and sharing their responses to the putrid videos.

One stunned user simply stated: "That might be enough to put me off takeaways."

Another chimed in and commented: "I’ll never understand how people eat at those chicken shops, ever."

A third person remarked: "Oh that’s nastier than the nastiest type of nasty nasty."

A fourth user noted: "Jesus that is revolting."

Meanwhile, some people had justifications for the way the two workers cooked the chicken, with one person pointing out: "I think he’s singeing the skin to remove any stray feathers prior to preparing it for cooking."

A second user injected: "He ain't cooking the meat, the man is burning the feathers of the chicken... common sense only if they sold it in bottles."

A third person suggested: "He's not actually cooking anything here, he's burning any hairs on the meat to prepare for cooking," but they also added: "Dear me, could've chosen a more hygienic location."

The Middlesbrough Council has been informed of the viral clips and has apparently employed environmental health professionals to look into the matter.

A spokesperson for the council said, per BBC News: "We are aware of the video circulating online and are looking into the matter. As a matter of course we expect all food processes to be carried out in a safe and hygienic manner."

It's safe to say that no one will be eating the chef's DIY method of grilling chicken.
