A TikToker was left in tears after strangers rejected her offer to pay for their groceries.

Amelia Goldsmith, also known by her nickname Milly, was left shocked and upset after multiple strangers brutally rejected her offer to pay for their groceries for them as a one-off act of kindness.

The video, which has since gone viral on the video-sharing platform, shows the British fitness influencer taking clips of her day visiting her local Sainsbury's - a popular grocery store in the UK - and flagging people down to try and put a smile on their face.

However, right from the start of the video, it was obvious that this didn't go quite as she was hoping.

Have a look for yourselves:

"This is the result of me wanting to do something very nice and buy someone's food shop," Milly says in the voiceover while inserting clips of her crying while on public transport.

The clip then goes back to the start of the day where an excited-looking Milly is walking through the parking lot of the grocery store before heading inside.

"So I'm here at Sainsbury's and I'm going to buy someone's food shop today because it's a Wednesday and I just want to cheer someone up," she continued before adding that she was really nervous.

"I just hope they don't look at me like I'm some kind of weirdo," she adds.

However, things went south pretty quickly.

Milly first went up to a man in the store who was checking out his groceries. She told him she wanted to pay for his items, which he immediately refused.

"There's really no need," he said, with the influencer adding in the caption of the video that he "looked angry."

The second person she approached had a similar response, denying Milly's kind act, saying: "There's a lot more deserving people in the world, but thank you."

By then, she was left feeling "embarrassed and judged."

And it continued to stay like that.

One of the other strangers looked at her as if she were an "absolute idiot," she told her 114,000 followers. Then she started to cry while saying the experience had given her an "overwhelming sense of emotion."

Instead of continuing with the task at hand, the TikToker decided to just buy a load of pasta and sauces and donate it to a local foodbank so she could help those who really need it.

"Weird turnout, but I'm still really happy that the food can go to those who really need it," she said. "I'm just really overwhelmed right now, I don't know what's going on."

Thousands took to the comment section to try and make Milly feel a little better.

"Such a lovely gesture. But advice would not to be to go to Balham... where most people live in £1m+ houses," this user commented.

"I personally wouldn’t like it either, the filming puts me off but also I’d think 'oh do I look like I’m poor,'" another added.

"Sainsburys is way too middle class. Go to asda/ aldi/ iceland where people will really need it," another suggested, while this user also agreed, saying: "It probably didn’t work because of the type of clientele that particular area has. People in my area would be extremely grateful for this."

Others praised Milly for at least trying.

"Honestly so proud of you for doing that and sharing this. The lesson here is others behaviour or response is never a reflection of your goodwill + worth."

"You're an angel," this TikToker commented.

In the end, Milly concluded that despite the outcome, she was extremely proud of herself for trying to do something nice.

There needs to be more people like Milly in the world.
